I would just unplug everything from the modem and the router and plug it all back in after a few mins. If the router doesnt have a light on the numbers 1,2,3, or 4 then you need to connect the router to the modem with a phone cord (Linksys usually comes with a blue one) then make sure you have a phone cord in the router going to your computer. That should turn a flashing light on one of the four ports (1,2,3, or 4). If you have a light on any of those numbers then your router is hooked up to the modem correctly and the connection itself is the problem. That means you have to play with the network settings on your computer.

Wrt54gx2 won't stay powered up

Has the AC jack been damaged in the Linksys, due to pulling of the cord? Try wiggling the plug at the rear of the linksys to verify the connection. Check, reseat ALL cables. If it's connected to the ISP modem, can you use a Ethernet cable on the Linksys to the computer to verify signal? It may be bad, hard to say for sure.

Can't reset router won't take blank user and "admin" password"

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of the router with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
