Inspiron 1525 DVD/CD drive problems

When I put in a music CD (one I purchased, not burned), sometimes it doesn't recognize it. I reboot and still nothing...... I go into my computer, click on the drive, and it ejects the drive and tells me to insert a CD when there was one there already. I am trying to get rid of all of my old music CDs by putting them on my computer, but I can't!!

The windows might be corrupted. You could try editing the windows registry. here are the steps:

In order to delete upper and lower filters you're going to have to edit the registry. The usual cautions apply. If the registry is not edited properly your whole system can crash.

1) Close all open programs
2) Click on Start, Run, and type REGEDIT and press Enter
3) Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders

* HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
* SYSTEM
* CurrentControlSet
* Control
* Class
* {4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

4) This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.

* UpperFilters
* LowerFilters
* UpperFilters.bak
* LowerFilters.bak

5) If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
6) After deleting the keys, close the Registry Editor
7) Reboot your computer
8) Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.

last option, you could try installing imgburn. here's the download link: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

If nothing happens, your dvd drive is bad.

Good Luck,

Can i burn the mini cd's/dvd's in my inspiron 1525?

Yes you can, your Notebook has a Dvd Writer with it, mini or normal dvds/cds will burn well without any problem if the Cd/Dvd Drive has no issues reading/writing Cds/Dvds.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Lost DVD drive

Try removing the player from your laptop and rebooting without it. Shut it down and put the player back in then restart again. That should force windows to reinstall it. If it's not seen when rebooting the device is probably bad.
