If grates are cast iron they can be seasoned you have to remove flaky parts with putty knife brush real well and oil if anything other then cast iron youll have to order replacements

Tom, It sounds like either your magnetron and door switch have gone out or the control board. From your description, I would think that it is combination of the door switch and magnetron, which are expensive to replace - are you sure you want to put that type of money into a 9 year old unit.
Eggs cause wet dog smell in my dishwasher. Prewash anything that has come in contact with either raw or cooked eggs before putting it in the dishwasher. I haven't had the smell since I figured this out.
the regulator/switches are either rusty, clogged, or need to be replaced. if you have some machanical aptitude and common sense this should be easy, if not have a pro or someone some knowledge of this type of thing handle it for you. in the future drain your compressor DAILY to avoid this problem
I would think you can. Most of the cooktops are 240v and the vents are 120v, so the vent may be feeding off of one of the cooktop's hot wires. My vent is fed from it's own receptacle but is harnessed along with the cooktop's 240v.
