It sounds like the compression release is not working,it works by opening the exhaust valve during engine cranking. For the compression release to work the valves have to be adjusted, especially after the engine is broken in.Set the engine to top dead center on the compression stroke, the exhaust valve should be set to .004 and the intake to .002. I think you will find the exhaust valve is way too wide which is causing the hard crank problem.Set the valves by adjusting the nuts on the rocker arms,it should be a torx set screw located in the rocker arm.First back the torx screw out about a turn then hand tighten the rocker stud with the feeler gage in place then tighten the torx screw down to lock the setting.

I have an older craftsman snow blower 10 hp. It starts ok with full choke, runs ok half choke, backfires with no choke-run position.

It's too lean; not enough fuel mixed with the air. Look for the main mixture screw--it should be a large screw with a spring under it on the carburetor. Run the engine until it's warm.

With the engine running, turn the screw outward (lefty-loosey) about 1/8 turn slowly and see if it improves. Slowly turn the screw back and forth until it runs best with the choke completely off. Then set it 1/8 turn richer (turn screw outward 1/8 turn) than the best position.

Reason for doing this: Conditions change, even the barometric pressure. Small engines run okay if they are a little rich but not if they are a little lean.

My craftsman LT 1000 wouldn't start, it's silent. I changed my battery - still the same.

1. try jumping your mower battery with your car/battery and see if it cranks. If it does, charge your battery. If it doesnt
2. try jumping directly from battery to starter. If that works, its your starter solenoid. If it doesnt,
3. change the starter.
I would need engine model number in order to find your part numbers.

My 12 horse brigs and straton riding mower keeps discharging its self what do i do

"testing" with a fog lamp wont prove anything other than charge state! You need a load tester!
Check the fluid level inside the battery, Your starter may be going bad.

You may either need a seat switch, pto switch or a park break switch. If the tracter is in nuetral with the park break set,it should start with out anyone on the seat, eliminating the seat switch. If you on the seat and the park brake is pushed and it wont start make sure the pto is off,if it is and nothing happens, then it's likely the parkbrake switch. Also check the connections on the battery, starter and engine block[ground].Let me know how you make out.
