Be sure your needle in in correctly. Front loading bobbins usually means the flat part of needle goes to the back. Side load bobbins, flat to the side. Hope this helps. God bless, happy sewing.

you have to make sure the bobbin thread is positioned right in the middle. When the needle comes down (into the bobbin compartment), you can peer into the bobbin compartment and see a loop of thread (coming out of the needle). You want to catch that bobbin (thread) in the loop of thread (that runs from the needle).

Does she have the right needle in? If the needle is to short it won't pick up the thread. If that is not the issue than it could be timing

SOURCE: prolectrix 8 stitch sewing machine top thread

Sounds like the take-up lever is not threaded.

Remove the thread from the machine, turn the handwheel until the take-up lever is at its highest position, raise the presser foot and rethread the machine. Set the upper tension dial to 5 and retry.

SOURCE: Bobbin unravelling on prolectrix 8 stitch sewing machine

did you put the bobbin thread in the tensioner? that would be the cut in the side of the bobbin case to pull the thread under the tensioner. if not it will cause problems. but if the top thread is looking good then the top thread is the problem, thread the machine with the presser foot up to let the thread into the tensioner, if it looks good on the top and not the bottom it is the upper thread if it looks good on the bottom and not the top it is the lower thread

The needle is not picking up the lower thread, I have cleaned the machine but the bobbin is not being picked up

Doesn't pick up bobbin thread
1. The bobbin may be in backwards.
2. The bobbin thread & top thread need to be pulled to the back before starting the stitching
3. You need a ballpoint rather than universal needle to sew on t-shirt knits.
4. the needle is in the machine backwards
5. Make sure the needle is the correct one for the fabric being sewed
6. Needle inserted wrong in the needle holder
7. Warped needle
8. Warped bobbin
9. Also could be a timing problem

My Bernette 715 isn't picking up the bobbin thread and is getting jammed. Any ideas what's wrong?

First thing to always try: Install a brand new needle. A dull, worn, or bent needle will cause great frustration. It is also the least expensive resolution to most problems.

Second: Remove all the threads. RAISE the presser foot. Rethread from the beginning making sure it is threaded correctly.
Pull up the bobbin thread before beginning to stitch and hold the thread tails in the left hand while slowly taking the first few stitches:

How and Why to Bring up the Bobbin Thread

If still having issues with not pulling up the bobbin thread, the needle/hook may be out of time.

John Lewis mini sewing machine

This was really helpful for me fixing my daughter a John Lewis (janome) mini sewing machine, and now can get the bobbin thread up again, however, when you sew, the thread is not staying in stitches, just coming off the material completely. I tried forcing the gears on one more time but then it didn't pick up the bobbin thread again so went back to the other gear position. Any ideas of what to try and get it stitching again? Thanks
