SOURCE: Denon AVR-688 Dolby Digital issues

IT IS ALWAYS BEST TO CONNECT ANALOG AUDIO IN ADDITION TO THE OPTICAL, COAXIAL OR HDMI AUDIO CONNECTION. IF USING OPTICAL OR COAXIAL CONNECTIONS BE SURE TO CONFIGURE IT IN THE RECEIVERS DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT AREA IN SETUP.
ALSO, ON THE FRONT OF THE RECEIVER IS AN INPUT MODE BUTTON, PRESS THIS BUTTON UNTIL AUTO IS DISPLAYED

SOURCE: I have a Denon AVR-688

Try to reset the unit: hold "speaker A" and "Speaker B" buttons and power on the unit. Display will be flashing, release the buttons after 3 seconds. If the problem still there, most likely you have bad digital signal processing (DSP) board - send the unit to repair facility.

SOURCE: power surge hit my surge protector with my 'sony tv hooked to it.

Well, the power supply may be still damaged by the surge, what may happen is that when first surge happens the surge protector protect your TV by sacrifing itself but then the second surge comes along, since the protector already blown up then the surge will just come right through to the TV on the second surge. That is bad problem for the surge protector that sacrify itself but can only do it for ONE time.

you must check first the fuse in the power supply which getting blown.if the fuse blown with darkened black color that was mean there are other component parts in the power supply or in the board which get bad. if you know how to test component, check shorted bridge type diode as will as regulator ic and FET transistor in the power supply board.

Denon AVR-1705 Missing Video Functions?

Hello,

What you need to do is connect all your devices to the Denon Using the best connections (Yellow Video=OK, S-Video=good, Component green-red-blue=better and HDMI=best. if you do not have a DVD that upconverts to 1080i or p when using HDMI, I would use component cables where available from your devices to the Denon other wise use the next best connection available and if connecting digital audio make a chart of all connection so you can setup everything when your ready for programming the Denon

TV has no picture but has sound

Did you say you went in to DVR set-up and checked the component out audio option? I have had similiar problems with motorola dvr boxes and once I was able to enable audio output option the dvr digital output was fine. Find the manual for the model dvd and this may cure.
