There are a lot of DIVA models and you did not post the model number. There are multple configurations and wiring methods.

Testimonial: "its a Diva CL 153. I dont think its related. I've take the dimmer out of line completely and the breaker continues to trip off when i switch it on. wondering if moving the wires in the box is shorting out somewhere?"

Is this a metal box? This job you are doing just took on a whole different priority.

Its not metal. gray plastic. very strange. I put the old skylark back in line. still tripping. removed it altogether so nothing was tied into those two wires at all. still tripping!

  • Brad Brown Jan 26, 2019

did you replace the light fixture?

  • Todd Gardner
    Todd Gardner Jan 26, 2019

no. literally just swapped the two wires from old dimmer into new one-that's it. It's the third one today-all others were fine. Only difference is this is one is in a double gang box that has another switch for a room outlet, but i didnt touch that at all.

  • Brad Brown Jan 26, 2019

Pull the other switch out and check it for arc marks to see if it is hitting the ground wire if it is a three wire cable. Otherwise you are looking at going big into the area around the box and that means drywall removal

Yes, it is possible. You need to inspect inside the box as BBrown has suggested. You dont need to disconnect the other switch, just move it out as far as possible. You can power on with the devices outside the box as a test... just make sure there are no "little" hands around.

SOURCE: lutron skylark s-10p 1000w dimmer. why is one

This video from the Lutron site shows the Diva switch but it is the video for the Skylark single pole switch also. It makes no mention of one wire being a larger gauge and does not differentiate which wire connects to line power and which to load. I do not think the wire gauge makes any difference.

SOURCE: 2 Lutron dimmers not working after floor cleaner

The dimmer should have nothing to do with the tripped breaker... Just disconnect the dimmer as a test. The dimmers are normally in series with the hot side of the line and if they short the controlled lights will remain on, if they open, then the lights will not come on at all. If the machine had somehow been plugged into the lights, then that probably blew the dimmer.

The floor cleaner MAY have overloaded the wiring and the breaker MAY not have protected the wiring and there is melted insulation and a short someplace.

If you can't find the smoking gun, get an electrician to evaluate the problem for your own safety.

Do other things on this circuit work??? Are you sure that the circuit breaker reset and it is on again....

Sometimes the power off and power on cycle will surge the dimmer enough to kill it...
I would get a meter and make sure you still have power at the switch...

Lutron 1000w skylark s-103p. The lights hooked up to this dimmer had always worked. now sometimes when i hit the on buttom they don't come on at all. the dimmer is probably5 years old. What do you...

Older dimmer switches use rheostats to adjust the resistant loads on the switch. Since this is a mechanical operation, over time they become loose or corroded. So it sounds like this has happened to your dimmer switch and you should replace it with a more modern switch that isn't as mechanical.

What Dimmer can I use That looks like an OS600 but is for a GU24 Dimmable CFL

Depending on your wiring, as to single pole (one switch location) or 3 way (two switch locations) you can use most dimmers. Leviton and Lutron have similar dimmers, and some specifically for cfl's.
Leviton has Sureslide, Illumitech, True Touch
Lutron has Diva, Skylark, and Lumea

Make sure your cfl is dimmable.

I have a lutron skylark s-600-wh. I would like to know if this dimmer is electronic or magnetic??? I will use it for a series of under the counter kitchen puck lights, and was told that the dimmer...

It is neither - it is rated for incandescent lamps only. It sounds like someone suggested that your puck ligths are being controlled by electronic low-voltage transformers, in which case, if you wanted to stick to the Skylark family, should be an SELV-300P-WH.

If you're not sure about any of this, I suggest calling Lutron's tech support line. It's at 1-800-523-9466, they're available 24/7, and can double-check the recommendation.

I have a Meastro dimmer MAW-600 W that is installed, but the light does not turn on and the LED keeps blinking. Any idea what the problem can be?

1) If this installation was working before, the Maestro has a small pull-out circuit breaker that lets you reset the device. This is called the FASS Front Accessible Service Switch, located at bottom of dimmer where it meets cover plate.
Open sample Lutron Maestro dimmer manual to see FASS illustration

2) If this is new installation, then double-check your wiring and check that load matches dimmer capacity: 600 watt incandescent or halogen, which excludes CFLs apparently.
Some electronic devices have shortened lifespan on circuits that are not clean. Use circuit analyzer on outlet on same breaker to see if line has interference.

3) I don't see MAW-600 W listed among Maestro dimmers, so I don't have that specific manual.

4) Amazon certainly shows the MAW-600 W, in case you need a replacement.

5) Lutron has customer service numbers:

These in-wall devices stop working and need to be replaced from time to time.
There are no repair parts.
Generally dimmers don't last as long as ordinary light switch, because they are electronic instead of mechanical.

Lutron makes the widest selection of dimmers.

Use link above to identify dimmer.
For example Skylark dimmer.

Then google search for a replacement.
For example: single pole 600 watt lutron skylark dimmer
Or: 3-way 600 watt skylark dimmer
Lutron also makes 1800 watt dimmers for larger loads.

I would call their tech support center for clarification, because what you descirbe doesn't immediately make sense. The only light that a Diva has should be a yellow glow through the back of the plastic. If you're talking about a green light, then maybe you mean a Maestro, but there's no yellow light on a Maestro... it's making me think you may have a different manufacturer.

Regardless, call tech support to figure it out. They're at 1-800-523-9466 and available 24/7.

Lutron Dimmer manuals

Lutron manuals show a couple things that might be affecting you lights.
1) Wattage: If you have wrong wattage dimmer
2) Type of light bulb: Dimmers work on different types of bulbs
3) Wiring: You say you got 3 wires going to the chandelier? Why you got 3 wires? Is this a 3 way switch? Are the chandelier bulbs wired separately so you can control groups of bulbs with different switches?
Does the dimmer have 3 screws? A dark-colored screw and 2 brass screws? If so, then that sounds like a 3-way dimmer. A 3-way, is where more than one switch controls the same light.

Does the dimmer have 2 screws? Then that dimmer controls a single circuit. Your black Hot wire from breaker box connects to one screw and the black wire to Load connects to other screw.
A quick glance at Lutron wiring manual shows that Hot and Load wires connect to either screw.
The question is your 3-wires from the chandelier ... does the black Hot wire from breaker arrive in the ceiling box first? Or does it arrive in the wall box first? If your Hot arrives in ceiling box, then the Hot must come down to the switch box and connect to a screw on the dimmer >>> a second wire connects to other screw on dimmer and travels up to the ceiling box where it connects to black wire on chandelier. The white wire on chandelier connects to white Neutral.
4) Dimmer might be bad

Trying to hook up a Lutron fan control and dimmer

The old switch is just a single pole switch. The new one is for fan speed control. You need to use a regular single pole switch like you had. Or you can use a single pole switch on the Lutron you bought if you can figure out which wires to use. Do you have a meter?
