Question about HP Pavilion zt1170 Notebook
I have a HP Pavilion ZT1170 laptop and it does not recognize the CD/DVD. The CD activity light is on solid and does not go off. I tried rebooting (several times) and even took the battery off but nothing helps. I remove the drive itself and that has no effect either. Do you have any suggestions?
Try with a CD/DVD lens cleaner CD. This will rectify any static charge or dust in the lens.
If any heavy phisical impact happend, may be the drive contacts are improper. Conform there is a DVD-RAM Icon presents in the My Computer window. If not found try the following steps.
1. Load CMOS default valus and give a proper start up and check the DVD-RAM drive in your system.
2. Shutdown the system
3. Gently push the drive inside the laptop's base cabinet. Remember apply a gentle force.
4. Turn on the system and check it out.
5. If the above steps failed, Shutdown the system, and remove the drive from the motherboard. Clean the electronic contacts using a pancil eraser or with a nice cloath. Insert the drive again, then verify.
Note: In all the above steps, try with more than 2 CD/DVDs 'cause laptop drives are too sensitive and can not read some CD/DVDs even thay have a little scratch.
