With the way computers are setup now it is plug and play and it will be recognized the very next time you reboot your PC. Find the appropriate memory based on your PC. Make certain to get the right memory based on your PC specifications. It takes a philips screw driver, locating the memory slots removing the old and placing in the new! You can upgrade your Averatec AV3270-EE1 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 1 socket to install Memory, already with 512 MB (removable) standard Memory installed.

just replace your current 512mb ram with 1gb ram because you only have 1 memory slot

Well, first thing would be to turn off screen saver. Right click on the screen anywhere, go to properties, screensaver, from the pull down check none, apply and close. May need to reboot. then let's see if it's a screensaver problem. Good luck
