I have a Coby CVR-20 recorder. I put new batteries in but it will not turn on. Is there a switch to activate the device?

Did it have an owner's manual with it?

You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.
- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.
Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.

Not sure if you're still having problems with this portable, but the first thing I would check is to make sure that you've put the batteries UNDER the battery clip in the battery compartment. Does the machine just make a 'beeping' noise when it tries to play, rew, or FF?

I looked on sony.com - put the hold switch to the up position and it will turn off within a few seconds

i had the same problem.  the solution i used was to unscrew the back and pop the battery out and put it back in.  the only other option is to wait for the battery to die, which can take a while.  it's definitely a flaw with the sansa.  its happened twice within 6 months...  good luck
