SOURCE: MY KENWOOD CAR CD PLAYER IS SAYING PROTECT??

Hi,

Kenwood head units show "protect" when there's a problem with the speaker outputs. This might mean a shorted speaker wire, a blown speaker, or an internal defect in the head unit. Once the condition that's causing the "protect" mode is fixed, the CD player should be back in normal mode the next time you turn it on.

If it's staying in "protect", then you'll definitely have to remove the stereo and do some troubleshooting to fix it. Many car audio stores will do system troubleshooting, for a fee. If you want to do it yourself, here's what you need to do:

Pull the Kenwood unit from the dash and disconnect all the speaker wires. Turn it on and see if the "protect" message displays. If it does, the stereo has an internal defect and will need to be serviced. If it doesn't, then turn it off, and re-connect one speaker. Turn it on again and see if it displays "protect".

If it works with a single speaker connected, keep re-connecting the others until you identify the speaker that's causing the problem. There may be a wiring problem or defective speaker in that location.

If it displays "protect" with a single speaker connected, then disconnect that one and try a different one. If all the speakers cause a "protect" mode, then you're probably back to a defective head unit, unless your friend managed to blow all your speakers at once.

Thanks,

How do i wire my kenwood DPX308U cd player to my 2003 ford f-150

Red wire to power that comes on when you start your car. Black wire to ground or metal. Blue wire is for remote turn on of power amplifiers . Yellow wire needs to go to a constant power connection because this is for memory, so all of your radio stations will be there when you turn the unit on. The other paired color wires are for speaker connections. Here is a link for a PDF manual that will show all of your connections. Hint disconnect your battery before making power connections so you don't fry your radio.

Kdc-x796 kenwood radio sound goes low after blasting it whats wrong? i changed the speakers then if i turn off the radio its ok for awhile then starts going soft again

Sounds like an overload protection. Check to make sure your wiring is correct for what the amp load can handle. If you have it wired for a 4 ohm and your radio, I am sure, can only handle an 8 ohm then that is your problem.

it sounds like you are using an amplifier. if so you are probably using the blue wire (antenna remote turn on) instead of the blue/white wire (amplifier remote turn on) to turn the amplifier on. the power antenna remote wire turns off when leaving tuner mode.

When you connect multiple speakers to one channel it drops the impedance. A radio is designed to play at 4 ohms which would generally be one speaker. When you connect two speakers to one channel it drops to a 2 ohm load which can be fatal for a radio but not always
