Question about Smith Corona Office Equipment & Supplies
SOURCE: Smith Corona Typewriter SL460:
The Lock button might be stuck. If someone was typing too fast, I believe it can "Overload". You may have to dis-assemble to see if button is stuck. I worked on one of these a while back.

Could be the printhead is at the right margin. But, if you hit the return key and nothing happins, it could be a bad board, power supply or transport motor. When you turn the machine on, does the printhead move all the way to the left, spin the printwheel and move to a set position?

there is a KB ON/KB OFF switch on the right side of the keyboard, it should be in the ON position
also on the left side the switch should be in the TYPE position
if that doesn't make it work, there is a problem with the main board or power supply that will need a visit to a repair shop

The typewriter has a spring at one spool to keep the correction ribbon taut. If that spring is broken or out of place, the ribbon will always get in the way of the wheel.
If both ribbons are correctly set tight between the wheel and the paper, the typewriter will reset the wheel at power-on.
Some models reset the wheel every time you close the cover. You can see and hear it if it does.
