The motor should cut in and out as controlled by the thermostat. Assuming your freezer is actually working and is cooling down, try the following. If you turn the thermostat down you should hear a click and the motor should stop. If there is no click before it gets to the lowest setting then either the thermostat is faulty (so won't cut out) or the freezer has not dropped to a temperature that is registered by the thermostat (it is too warm). A faulty thermostat is indicated by excessive freezing because it doesn't know when to stop the cooling process. A freezer that is too warm means the cooling process is ineffective and may, for example, require re-gassing.

Lowering the temps will make it run longer. You don't give any other data so it is hard to know what the issue is...try defrosting the unit completely to get rid of ice which may not allow the unit to work properly. Freezer should be at about 0 F and fridge at 40. Use an outdoor thermometer to check this. Leave door closed at least an hour before retrieving the thermometer.

the only time the fan shut's down is when it is in defrost mode, and that normaly ever six hour's for 20 min.

Hi,
The motor is getting very hot because of running all the time and not cooling properly...
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...
