The motor should cut in and out as controlled by the thermostat. Assuming your freezer is actually working and is cooling down, try the following. If you turn the thermostat down you should hear a click and the motor should stop. If there is no click before it gets to the lowest setting then either the thermostat is faulty (so won't cut out) or the freezer has not dropped to a temperature that is registered by the thermostat (it is too warm). A faulty thermostat is indicated by excessive freezing because it doesn't know when to stop the cooling process. A freezer that is too warm means the cooling process is ineffective and may, for example, require re-gassing.

SOURCE: Whirlpool refrigerator does not turn off

Lowering the temps will make it run longer.  You don't give any other data so it is hard to know what the issue is...try defrosting the unit completely to get rid of ice which may not allow the unit to work properly.  Freezer should be at about 0 F and fridge at 40.  Use an outdoor thermometer to check this.  Leave door closed at least an hour before retrieving the thermometer.

SOURCE: Motor runs continuously

Hi,
The motor is getting very hot because of running all the time and not cooling properly...
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

Samsung RB31F Fridge/Freezer - fridge temperature too high, freezer OK

1-The condenser coils are usually located under the refrigerator. They dissipate heat as refrigerant passes through them. If the condenser coils are dirty, they won't dissipate the heat effectively. As debris builds up on the coils, the refrigerator becomes less efficient, causing the refrigerator to work harder to cool down. If the coils are significantly dirty, the refrigerator will not be able to maintain the proper temperature. Check the condenser coils to determine if they are dirty-if the condenser coils are dirty, clean them.
2-The evaporator fan motor draws air over the evaporator (cooling) coils and circulates it throughout the refrigerator and freezer compartments. Some refrigerators have more than one evaporator fan motor. On refrigerators with only one evaporator, the evaporator is located in the freezer compartment. If the evaporator fan is not working, it will not circulate the cold air to the refrigerator compartment. If this occurs, the freezer may still get cold, while the refrigerator will not get cold. To determine if the evaporator fan motor is defective, try turning the fan blade by hand. If the fan blade does not turn freely, replace the fan motor. Additionally, if the motor is unusually noisy, replace it. Finally, if the motor does not run at all, use a multimeter to test the motor windings for continuity. If the windings do not have continuity, replace the evaporator fan motor.

Re lights lit on freezer

Red light lit on freezer means that is not reaches operating temperature.

Most often the old freezer has three indicator lights.
- Green light : that it is brought to a power source and turned on - Red light : means that the temperature is above -18 degrees
- orange light : pressing the so-called SUPER-switch which means that the compressor is running continuously. The SUPER-button switch on a few hours before you begin deep-freeze foods. Freezing time depending on foods quantity (kg). With old freezer must be careful to turn off the switch S (orange light) when the red light goes out or when foods are frozen, otherwise after a few days may burn out the compressor. You should be following the instructions from user manual.
In new freezer managed by the electronics, this function has a predetermined maximum duration, in order to protect the compressor, and can have different marketing names like "shopping".....

HIGH TEMPERTURE MESSAGE FOR FRIDGE AND FREEZER

Hi Friend, this is Z. Thank you for your post!

Did your Electrolux refrigerator previously experience a power loss? If the temperature of food rises to an unsafe level, the buzzer will typically sound and the red light, if equipped, will also glow. Is your refrigerator beeping or did the alarm turn on? If so, first deactivate the alarm to your refrigerator by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker. Wait approximately ten minutes and then turn on your refrigerator. After deactivating the alarm and your refrigerator has run approximately four hours, the red light/alarm should go off on its own. If the red light/alarm continues to stay on, your refrigerator may possibly have a communication problem with the control board, temperature control or a wiring harness. If this is the case, I would recommend connecting with an experienced technician to determine the underlying cause. Best - Z

Hi there. I have Electrolux freezer EUU 6174. The problem is that the compressor is switching on and off for 5 seconds and the temperature is to hight. I can't store any food in the freezer. can u help me?

your problem is likely the starting capacitor .. that is a metalic part (about the size of a fist) that is mounted on the compressor or near it .. it will have wires going to the compressor .. the capacitors are not very expensive and usually easy to change but make sure the unit is unplugged .. you can either write the numbers down off the capacitor or remove it and take it with you to a parts place to get a match ... take a photo or draw a diagram so you know where the wires go .(they usually just plug in) . .. you can order one from electrolux (might be higher price) .. dont allow the unit to continue running with the bad starting cap since the compressor can be damaged eventually ... if you call a repairman .. then make sure you tell him its a bad starting cap so he can bring one wiith him and avoild a second trip .. give him the model number and numbers off the capacitor if you can ... often the capacitor is actually two capacitors in one can ... one is for the compressor and the other is hooked up to the fan ... in that case replacing one would also replace the other ..
