Re: Hotpoint HS12 Hood - Charcoal Filters
Vbab, loose charcoal isn't a problem unless it gets out of the frame that it is supposed to be in and lands on your stove top. A small amount may have gotten around whatever is supposed to hold it. No worries! Most units shove into place. Usually, that means pushing one end of the filter frame into the unit against a spring. You can then push the other end up so that it is caught by the cabinet of the unit. Moderate pressure is required.

IF YOU HAVE THE PLASTIC RETAINER WRAPPED AROUND IT USE SMALL SCREW DRIVER TO PRY THE RETAINER OPEN. THEN YOU HAVE PUSH IN ON PLASTIC RETAINER TO WORK IT AWAY FROM FILTER ENOUGH UNTIL YOU CAN REMOVE FUEL AWAY FROM RETAINER.NOW IF YOU HAVE TWO PLASTIC TAB TYPE QUICK CONNECT FITTING JUST SQUEEZE PLASTIC TABS REMOVE THEN REMOVE FUEL LINE FROM FUEL FILTER.
You can try activated charcoal to absorb the plastic odor. You'll find charcoal in the aquarium section of your ""big box" stores. Depending on how it's packaged, you might have to cut a **** in the package to expose the charcoal. You DO NOT want to use Barbecue charcoal! You can also wipe down the entire interior with a baking soda solution and then rinse. We had the same problem with our Samsung French Door and it was gone within a few days once we began filling it with food and leftovers! I hope this helps. If it does, please come back to Fixya and rate my advice.
The fuel filter is located right below the battery to the right. If you intend changing it, here are a few steps to help. Firstly, remove the screw from the metal bracket that is holding the fuel filter. To get the quick connect fuel line fittings off, you need a disconnect tool. I got a pack of 6 at Advance Auto for $12. The small gray one fits the 2001 Sportage.
Put the plastic tool under the fuel line fitting and squeeze together. The fuel line will pop off the old filter. To remove the rear fuel line, I had to go under the vehicle and use the tool on the fuel line. There is a rubber hose with 2 quick connect fittings. One end attaches to the filter and the other end attaches to a metal fuel line under vehicle. Remove the fitting that attaches to the metal line since there is no room on the back of filter for the tool to fit. Once you get the whole assembly out of the car, you can work on getting the fitting off the rear of the old filter. Be very careful not to damage the plastic quick connect fittings!
The best thing to do to both, keep your Majestic suction and air flow strongest, and keep from pulling dirt & dust from being pulled past the filters which can cause damage to the motor, and charcoal filter, replace the filter once a month. If you use it longer than that it will both loose suction and will cause your Medipure or Enviropure "charcoal" filters to wear out prematurely. Mark the change date right on the filter or on your calendar to help keep track.
Firstly operate extractor normally, hold a piece of A4 paper on the underside of fan and see how it holds it on the different speeds. Then if you can remove the charcoal filters then operate as before and compare the difference between the suction, this should tell you if it is the charcoal filters or a blockage in the pipe.
Under the download section is the owners manual. This is for the same series Miele that you have so this manual will have most everything you need to know. The black filter is a charcoal filter, this is good if you want to control the odor but don't have allergies. If you have allergies you might wont to get a HEPA filter. I would recommend changing the filter every 6 months to a year. You need to use the empty filter when you want to use it as a blower. The hose will not fit into the opening with the HEPA or charcoal filter in place. I hope this helps.
You can get a product called dishwasher majic. It is used to clean the tub of a dishwasher. Big box stores (LOWES, HOME DEPOT) should have it. There is not charcoal in the unit. I suspect is grease from the rubber seal around sump assembly.
