I have a Vizio 50” LED TV (model no. P502UI-B1E). Over the last couple months the TV would seem to turn off immediately when I turn it on once in a while. I would have to try 1-2 more times for the TV to turn on on occasion. A couple days ago I left TV on over night. In the morning I began watching a football game when the picture went out with audio still playing. I turned off the TV and turned it back on, but I couldn’t get video or audio. The power light indicator would go on and flash for several seconds, then turn off. There is no audio or video, even the sound bar (HDMI) does not receive any signal. I unplugged all devices and still got the same result. I already did the flashlight test to check for a bad backlight and unplugged TV and held the power button for 10 seconds. No change. Considering that there is no audio and video, the power light indicator flashes for several seconds and stops, what is the most likely cause or causes, power board, main board, T-Com board, etc.?

It sounds like a backlight inverter to me. I am 99% sure. The buzzing noise you mentioned kind of confirms that, so does the backlight turning off. If you want to test them, then you are gonna need a multimeter. I will see if I can find a schematic in my collection, but be aware that this is a highvoltage device we are dealing with. May not be a good idea to test it yourself if you have never worked on electronics before. The sets hold nasty voltages for several days after its turned off and unplugged, and can injure you if you are not careful. I don't mean to scare you but its my job to tell you. If you want to proceed then I'm game.

This is unfortunately a not uncommon problem that others have told me about and Vizio only advised them to buy another television.

Struck by lightning is highly unlikely.
