The store would have put the code on the receipt when you bought it. If you lost the receipt then you need to contact the store. If aquired from a 3rd party contact them for code. We will not help bypass anti-theft measures.

Hey! sorry but you will need to enter that appleID password to reactive the iPad. If you still have the original receipt you can call apple and have them start the recovery process.
I would take it back to the Kmart & request to speak to the Boss tell them you got it as a present & explain that its messed up & try to get another one.
