High pressure is usually from heat not being removed from freon in the condensor. Usually it's because the cooling fan is not sucking air through the condensor. Check your cooling fan relays (3) in the battery box in front of the battery. Also, check to see if cooling fan has failed.
Does it work ok when the engine is cold and then quit after engine warm up? That would be a clue. When pressure gets too high, there is a high pressure cut-off switch.

Other posibility is a restrcition in the system. not common though.

SOURCE: a/c in jetta blows hot air, its been charged, compressor comes on.

you need to have it diagnosed by a professional. These are complicated systems even to a trained tech. You may be over or under charged, have a clogged expansion valve, have a leak or many other issues. This model has a rcv refrigerant control valve inside the compressor which regulates the pressure of the compressor. If you notice the compressor never shuts off like conventional auto a/c's do the only time the clutch works is when you turn it on or off. Can be complicated.

SOURCE: 1995 z-28. air conditioner compressor won't kick

Your A/C pressure switch may have gone bad or the wire harness to it may have gone bad. The switch is along the low pressure line or on the A/C Accumulator ( looks like a silver canister) , Unplug the wire and you can jump it there and see if the clutch comes on, if it does try spreading the two tabs apart on the switch and clipping the wire back on. If it does not come back on you need to replace the switch, you can do it with out loosing to much R134A. Just got to be quick when you  remove the old one and placing the new one. The low side should have a reading of 30PSI to 50PSI and the high side should have 150PSI to 200PSI. Any other reading will give you poor A/C performance. Good luck and hope this helps.

SOURCE: adding freon to the auto air conditioner, the

On that model,it will cycle on and off while you add freon. If it does not ,then the ac system might have a problem. The low side pressure switch is located on,or near the accumulator .Unplug the switch and take the wire end plug and connect the two plug in`s together(cross it out on the wire). This will make the ac compressor engage and you can charge the system,do not leave the wire connected, plug it back up to switch. If the ac compressor does not come on ,then have the system checked out.

SOURCE: where do you add freon to 1997 mercury gran

You should find a fill stem on the black oblong tank or right next to it. This is the low pressure side. You should get a Vacuum pump which can be loaned from Autozone or Oreillys with a refundable deposit. You need to draw out the moisture in the system and create a Vacuum before you refill it.

You should also use an Oil charge for the compressor. There are Freon cans with the oil charge already in them. However, there are different weights of oil used in the compressor. Let the Auto parts people get you the right type for your car. There are different weights, just like engine oil has different weights.

You will need to jump the connector at the low pressure switch to get the system to take freon. Once you have enough to close the low pressure switch you can remove the jumper wire and fill at will.

A/c compressor stopped cooling, clutch is engaged,is it possible to have too much freon in the unit,,

The system needs to be vacuumed down with a recovery machine and the proper amount of oil and freon added to ensure proper operation. The system most likely has air/moisture within it and will not function properly. Have it proffessionally serviced for adequate operation

Why isnt the air conditioning working?

could be several reasons. could be a fuse, a bad belt, no Freon, or a loose wire on the compressor or a leaking Freon hose. IF you hear the compressor kick on when you turn on the ac, but have no cold air, don't continue to run it because the compressor uses Freon as a lubricant also. Take it to an ac shop.

Air conditioner does not blow cold air.

Your freon level is most likely low. You can either take your vehicle to a mechanic to charge your a/c system or go to your local auto parts store and purchase a can of freon with a gauge and hose on it. Read the instructions and charge your system with freon.

Air conditioning does not seem to charge. ive converted it to r134. the compressor will kick on for a few seconds then kick off. this cycles like this every 10 or so seconds. i put in 1 oil charge and 2...

You need some manifold gauges to determine what you are doing. Autozone and Oreillys lend tools out for the deposit. When you return the tools you get your deposit back.
There should be a A/C sticker under the hood to show the capacity of the system. Its by volume so it will only hold so much no matter what kind you used.

The ideal amount of Freon will keep the pressure in a range between 2 extremes. You have a low pressure switch and a high pressure switch. When the system is circulating the Freon the pump will run the longest when the pressure is in the middle.

If the oblong tank is frosting up and the lines from it have frost, then you have enough. The tank should be sweating vigorously. You are probably close to full but I don't think you need a full can to top off. This is where the gauges matter.

2000 Mercury Villager compressor wont kick on

PERHAPS IT IS JUST A BAD RELAY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. HAVE YOU TRIED TO SWAP IT WITH ANOTHER ONE IN THE FUSE BOX? THIS MAYBE THE ONLY TROUBLE. MAKE SURE THAT THE FUSE IS ALSO GOOD BEFORE THE RELAY IS REPLACED. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING IN ADVANCE. BEST OF LUCK. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED.

Air conditioner not working

First check if the compressor comes on at all when you push the A/C button inside the car while it running. if the RPMs don't move at all, it's probably not coming on.

Also, check all the fuses and make sure they are okay. Your user manuall will give you the location of the fuse.

Next, check the freon level. When there is not enough freon in the system, it will automatically keep the compressor turned off so it doesn't burn it up. One way to see is to add some freon to your system and see if it kicks the compressor on. You can buy a can of freon at any walmart, and you just need a hose to hook up to your "low side" on A/C system and add the freon while the car is running and the A/C is turned on. You will hear it "kick on" when it has enough pressure in the system.

If that works, and a few days go by and it quits, you probably have a leak somewhere.
