Try using a needle for metallic thread, the eye is larger and may help

SOURCE: Brother PE-150V bobbin thread

For embroidery, and zig-zag, and because the needle makes side movements, it needs more needle thread.
So try to keep you needle thread not very tight,
and tight up your bobbin case tension more, so that the two threads meet under the meterial.

SOURCE: Designer 1: upper thread shredding while embroidering

I too, have the same problem withmy Designer 1. I just bought ISACORD brand polyester embroidery thread to hopefully solve this problem, but I believe it must be a tension problem. I have a "date" with the repair lady on Friday (11/22/08) and if it gets repaired I will re-post what the problem was. Still love the machine WHEN IT SEWS!!

How do I tighten the tension disc which has become loose in a Viking topaz 40

Thread breaking is normally caused by tension being too tight or by incorrect threading. If it is loose and jiggly, it isn't tight. Maybe your bobbin tension is too tight, and your top tension is far too loose.

My brother pe770 jamming up and i get this error msg that says check and rethread upper thread

I find that most problems for me have been from poorly wound bobbins or very dense designs. With the dense design, when nearing the end the hoop starts catching/jumping up with the needle, breaking thread. I use software to decrease density one or two increments then embroider. Clean out the bobbin shuttle and the upper thread path. Change needle & make sure your stabilizer is appropriate for the fabric. If too lightweight it tends to shred causing issues.

Mc 5700 problem

Check for loose threads or fluff in upper tension unit and bobbin case tension gauged to 14g resistence. Otherwise, service time I'm afraid. Have it serviced by an authorized Husqvarna Viking Service Technician. You can locate a dealer near you by visiting the husqvarna viking website and clicking on the Dealer link on the left-hand side of the page - http://www.husqvarnaviking.com

Good luck.
