I had a similar problem, and my solution was this: I pressed menu on my TV and using my universal remote, went into setup, and then channel search (or near to that), at which point it began searching for analog and digital channels. This can take up to approx. 30 minutes. I suggest you occupy yourself while waiting; it is a sluggish process.

If you want assurance, your TV will have the majority of analog channels (basic cable), and a couple digital. I am basing this wholly on my experience, however. Once finished, it should switch immediately so a channel. Mine was a weather station.

I hope this is successful in helping you and those in the future.

I just purchased a RCA universal remote, works better than the original. Price $15. Most likely it will allow you to control the tv.
There is a code system for almost any device.

To open its child lock, you might have its original remote control. Try these methods. Locate the manual for your television. Though slightly embarrassing, accidentally turning on the child lock to a TV is a common problem. The section In the manual about how to set the child lock feature will also explain how to unlock it.
Try a few "universal methods" for unlocking the child lock. Some televisions have a universal code built in for disabling the child lock --no matter what your code is. A common code is "0000."
Unplug your television for a few minutes. The internal battery of the TV is what helps remember what your code. If the TV is unplugged for an extended period of time, it clears the internal memory, which in turn will reset your child lock code.
If you wish to buy its original remote control, you have to contact the authorized service center. If you wish to buy a universal remote control, you should know about, which brand remote control have setup code to your TV/device brand. You should first make sure about the number of digits in the codes to your device have. There are 3-digit, 4-digit, 5-digit and even 2-digit codes. You can get this detail by the code list attached to every universal remote control. The brand name of the remote control you select isn't a matter; but, its code list should have setup codes to your TV/device brand, otherwise you can't set it up with your device. This CRT based tV is an anlogue one. You can use a universal remote control, except to unlock the FPA lock to this TV. By anyway, this TV has been locked with FPA lock, you must have its original remote control to unlock the lock. You can use most of the RCA universal remote controls with this TV.
RCA RCR 311W will be better. The setup codes are:
1000, 1002, 1004, 1005, 1014, 1025, 1078, 1081, 1095, 1096, 1097, 1098, 1099, 1100, 1101, 1111, 1128, 1130, 1132, 1134, 1144, 1146, 1149, 1171, 1205

The problem with universal remotes is that they can not fully replace the original, for example, on my remote you may turn on txt but can not turn it off, the only way is to turn off TV, and turn it on. I was lucky :) You must find the original remote, or maybe some other universal in which you may have this option, you will not know until you try. Universal remote only a part meets the requirements, I have not had the opportunity to find a universal remote that completely replaced the original.
