Question about Lionel Toys
SOURCE: Lionel train power issue
Answer a number of questions:
Is the tranformer power adequate for the train and is it a working tranformer?
Will the train run by connecting the wires directly to the two points of the train (wheels and center rail connector)?
Are the tracks new?
Is the lockon new?

SOURCE: anniversary train clock; clock does not work
It's not the motor it's the unit in the middel that works the clock it self. I have the same problem. When the clock passes the hour it is supose to send a signal to start the motor. There are two tiny pices metal that are supose to contact each other on the hour and they break off easy.
You have to replace the clock unit and reconect the two black wires.
Try by passing it. The two black wires that come from the clock unit. Cut them and touch them together. Make sure the light sencer on the front is not covered.
Good Luck

SOURCE: The Cw 80 watt transformer
If you have a volt meter you can check the rails for power, Check the transformer wiring to the first rail connection and then along the rails for loss loose connection(s). If you have power to the rails it is an issue with the Engine, Check any brush or rail riders (connections) for a bent or broken tab. If for a temp fix in a broken connection tab or brush you can use Tin foil. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: my lionel train won't run at all. What do I do?
bad connections, wires to/from the transformer, or maybe a real dirty track.
try spraying a very small amount of CRC [brand ) 226 it is better than any contact cleaner on the market. do not get it on the rubber traction wheels on the engine. If you do, wash off with alcohol using a cotton swab on the rubber band on the traction wheel.
