There is nothing positive about this. You can try to load windows in "safe-mode" by holding the f8 key when you start windows. Then you can try to do a system "restore" to a date BEFORE this happened. If that doesn't work you will need to load a new operating system on your laptop. Good Luck

Black screen with single line flashing on startup

You hard drive is missing from the system. Just does not recognize it.
  • The obvious - Remove any USB devices like drives and any media from disc player. Its trying to load, but can't find bootable hard drive, CD, or USB...
  • Remove the hard drive and reseat (reconnect). Verify BIOS recognizes the drive. It must be listed! There is no going forward if it's not. Check boot order and make internal hard drive first. Save and restart.

I have this problem. My computer ACER ASPIRE ONE cant log in and i dont know what i have to do. The problem says: Check cable conection..! PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device -- insert...

It may be a problem with the hard disk drive. To check, try to boot to the BIOS. Turn the computer on and tap on F10 before the Acer splash screen. Once you are in the BIOS, check if there is any hard disk drive being detected by the computer. Look for any SATA device that will have a storage capacity. If it does not show such, then you have to replace the hard disk drive of your computer. Unfortunately, the data goes together with this device. It will be very expensive to retrieve it from a damaged hard disk.
If in case the hard drive is seen, then it is just an OS problem. The MBR is corrupted. To fix this issue you need to boot from the installation CD.
For XP: boot to the WinRC.
Tap on F12 on before the splash screen. You will have an option to boot from the CD. Load the WinXP CD and choose onboard or usb cd rom drive.
On the setup screen choose R to repair. The follow the prompts until you get a black screen.
On this black screen, type fixmbr then press on return. That should do it.
If it does not work, then you just need to have your Hard disk replaced.

Vikash,
You must have a CD labled Windows XP bootable.
if u have then load it in your CD or DVD drive. then you must enter into BIOS via pressing F2 or Delete Aftr that set up the BIOS for First Boot Device to CD/DVD drive instead of hard disk. save the settings in BIOS. after restart in Black screen u will get a line asking "To boot from CD press any key" press any key at that screen setup will start after that you can install the XP easily. Hi there,
We Wish You a Happy New year.
Step 1: This might be because of external devices or non-bootable CD or DVD in the CD/DVD drive. Remove all the external devices (including pen drive/flash drive/CD or DVD disc) connected to your computer and then check for the issue.

Step 2: It might also happen if system is unable to find any bootable device.
Try restoring default setting in BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) and check. Also please check for the boot priority. For this you have you to contact the system manufacturer.

Step 3:Clickthe below link and follow the steps.

Toshiba tecra M3 wont start. Upon startup it shows a black screen and says problem loading operating system

download form bootdisk.com "XP Boot" and burn to cd in an .iso (bootable) format.

boot from the cdrom (you may have to go into BIOS and look for a "boot priority" option to allow you to boot from cd, to acess BIOS, hit "escape" and then either "F1" or "F2" as soon as you turn it on). run fdisk /mbr from the XP Boot cd. with this tool, try to repair the mbr. if that does not work, you need to use this tool to erase the mbr and reinstall windows.

Windows doesnt load up stays on this black screen

Most probably it is the problem with your hard drive's MBR (master boot record).

First try booting the system from bootable CD or DVD, if that succeeds that will be the sign that everything is ok with your machine but you have problem with your OS (operating system).

Try reformating the hard disk and resintalling Windows or doing system recovery from CDs provided from your vendor.

To get bootable CD with OS, easiest thing to do is to get one of the linux distributions that can be loaded from the CD.
Smallest and simplest is SLAX.

http://www.slax.org/get_slax.php

Burn it on CD and try booting your computer.

Good luck,
