Well, sounds like a couple of things if an external monitor works. First, toggle a couple of times between lcd and external just to make sure that it's not set to external only.
If that's no help, look closely at the lcd while the operating system is running. Can you see any image at all? If so (or if not) you have a bad inverter (we have them at the shop for around 25.00). The other possibilities are a bad backlight (which means a new lcd, about 75.00) or it's possible the lcd cable has simply came loose from it's socket.
That's about all it could be on these models if you're getting an external image. I'm using a T30 right now. They tend to have bad memory slots, but great machines.
Good luck
This suggests that either back light has failed - you should see shadow images if this is the case.
or
The inverter has failed- in which case the screen remains dark
or simply the ribbon cable has come adrifr screenside or computer side.
Repair shop job for all three unless your are computer savvy.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.
Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.
If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.
Why did you replace the lcd inverter? Were you able to barely see icons
on the desktop which is an indication that the lcd inverter is bad? If
not, then you need to replace the lcd screen. If you could barely see
the icons and you replaced the lcd inverter, then the inverter is bad.
Just because the inverter is new does not mean it works. If the video
shows on the external monitor, but you can't see anything on the
laptop's screen even when you shine a flashlight on it then the lcd
screen is bad.

of a display. If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad.

Did the laptop boot up all the way except the screen is blank? Do you
hear fans running and the hard drive spinning, lights on? If you think
it booted except the screen is blank try the steps below.

The fact that you can see the desktop on the external monitor means your
LCD Inverter on the laptop is bad. The video card in the laptop is
good, otherwise you would not be able to see the desktop on either
screen.

The lcd inverter can be purchased on ebay for less than $15. It
is located at the bottom of the lcd screen. You'll have to remove the
plastic strip that is around the lcd screen by removing the plastic or
rubber bumpers that have screws under them. Normally there will be
bumpers at each corner and maybe along the insides on the plastic
strip. Remove the bumpers, the screws and pry the plastic strip off
with a little force with your fingers. You will then see the lcd
inverter at the bottom of the lcd screen.
Just put your computer's name and model in the ebay search followed by lcd inverter.
Actually it looks like your laptop uses the LED screen instead of LCD so
it will not have the LCD Inverter. You will have to purchase a new
screen. I found the one below on ebay.

A white screen usually means the LCD panel has failed/worn out. Here's an easy way to make sure. Get your laptop to an external monitor, whether at your home or a friend's place, and with the laptop off and the external monitor off, connect the monitor video (vga) cable to your laptop. Turn them both on and then on your Dell laptop hold down the fn key down in the bottom left hand corner of the keyboard and press the F8 key up at the top. That transfers the video signal to the external monitor.
If the external monitor shows your laptops normal desktop and icons, then you know for sure the LCD screen on your laptop is worn out. If you get the same white screen on the external monitor, it means the video card/controller on the motherboard of your laptop has worn out and you can move ahead with deciding on repairs or other options.
Good Luck.
PS....if the F8 key doesn't transfer the video signal. look at all the F keys for one that says CRT or one that has a little picture of a monitor to transfer the signal.
If you're still under warranty, you can diagnose one possible problem easily enough. Blank white screen with the LED indicator lights running normally otherwise will almost always mean that the LCD panel is bad. If you don't have an external monitor available, find a friend with one and hook up the laptop to that monitor. Be sure to have the laptop power off when you attach the monitor cable. Press the power up button and then the Fn+F? (whatever F key has a little icon on iyt showing a monitor) combo to switch to an external monitor. If your laptop's Operating System shows up on the monitor, you know for certain it's jus your LCD panel that's bad and you can ask the manufacturer to replace it.
actually in these case laptop does'nt display due to many causes some might be in vga chips, inverter, and LCD etc. but in these side first check if light indicators normal all. then check the inverter.
How do you toggle between lcd and external?
