SOURCE: pmp3000 problem power supply.ic circuit problem

I have a PMP5000 that I had to resurect. I had to trace out the power supply to repair it.

I can give you hint: First, a small supply runs directely from the line and generates some of the small voltages. While this starts, the main power caps are charged through limiting resistors. The main switcher is brought online and if the power amps acheive balance, then a relay connects the speakers and shorts the limiting resistors.

This is what is in the 5000 and I suspect the 3000 is similar.

In my 5000, there was arcing at one side of the power amps. The board was burned and three power fets fried. Cancer of burned board had to be carved out and traces replaced by hardwiring.
In addition, the limiting resistors were blown open, both main switching transistors were blown and 4 small driver transistors (surface mounted) and several diodes AND a switching regulator chip (surface mounted).all fried/

Hint: When restarting the unit, put a 150 watt light in series with one of side of the power input to limit the current in case you did not get all the dead bodies out.

This is a class "D" amp which drives PCM waves into a filter which is then the audio output. It is much more efficient thaan a linear amp.

Hello i have a sa-gx 130 and when i trun it on it says ovedrload and no sound what can i do to fix this ty

You have probably short circuited the speaker wires or had a faulty speaker connected. If there are speakers connected still check all of them and the wiring. However if it still says overload with no speakers connected then you have shorted a device in the main power amp section, which will need to be replaced. Look at all the devices on the big heat sink of the unit.

Hi,
The AVR have problem in its pre amplifier stage. Normally this type of cracking noise will hear because of faulty op amp (operational amplifier) ics. To repair such problems you should have through knowledge in electronics. And also need SMD rework stations Beacuse all the op amp ics are SMDs. If yo have such knowledge then i have added here the link to the service manula for your AVR.

Refer the page number page number 13 first. Its the Audio section blaock diagram of the AVR. you can see the the suspected ic in the top right corner marked as IC410. Which is the pre stage op amp for the frond left righ amplifier. You have to replace this ic( integrated circuit).

You can find the position of the ic by refering Page number 27. Its the input board . On the board you can see three ics with 8 legs(four in each side) On the left side. You have to replace the ic marke as IC410. You can find the schematic for the input board in page number 26. the The part number of the ic M5218AFP-T .

Refer the sevice manual to know how to carefully to remove the input baord.

I have a Pioneer VSX-305 receiver. I blew channel A speaker outputs by allowing speaker wires to touch. Everything else works. Can anyone tell me what it takes to fix this. (I am an electrical engineer...

Without a Sams Photofact or a service manual I would go directly to the Power IC which is the largest Integrated Circuit mounted to a large heat sink. If you see any fuses they are probably for the power supply since any fused circuit on the speaker output would be ineffective because the IC would be damaged before the fuse would blow, but you need to check them anyway. Since the short was at the speaker output your problem should be at the final stage of amplification, which is the Power Amp IC. Prior to the early 70's you would have transistors mounted to a heat sink which could be individually checked and replaced. Then manufactures started to use the Power Amp IC which are more costly but eliminate having to find matched pair transistors. All you can check on the Power Amp IC is if you have an input using an oscilloscope or signal tracer and the power to the IC. If you have an input signal and power to the device with no output, I would replace the IC. Unless you have a test circuit for the IC you cannot test it completely unless you have a device like a Huntron Tracker or build a test circuit using a signal generator and a power supply to measure the gain of the IC with an oscilloscope. Short of ordering a service manual this is a good place to start.

Philips 14pt1686/05s Distorted audio

Hello
Distroted sound may due to some fault in the speaker or its ouput stage inside your TV. You jsut open your TV and unsolder the wires from speaker, and solder it to an other speaker and see whether the sound is normal or not. If it is normal, you can make sure that the speaker of your TV has damaged.
Other reason is of some fault in the output section of your TV, which is integrated on its circuit board. You just locate the audio output section on the circuit board. it will be an Ic that drives the speaker. It can be located very easly following the speaker wires. usually it is screwed on to a metal plate, and will have a number printed on it. Sometimes there may be some bad solderings on its leg solderings. You just resolder all the pins of that Ic by applying a little more solder to its points, and see the effect.
If this cannot rectify the problem, just resoder the Ic out from the cirtuit board, and go for a same type and number. Replacing it will solve your problem. Ok

I would lke to know the reference code on the audio out put ic, used in the VHF MARINE IC-M302.

Quick description as per ICOM Manuals:
Quote
The AF amplifier circuit amplifies the detected signals to drive a speaker. The AF circuit includes an AF mute circuit for the squelch. AF signals from IC1 (pin 9) are applied to the de-emphasis circuit (R61, C89). The de-emphasis circuit is an integrated circuit with frequency characteristic of –6 dB/octave. The integrated signals pass through the high-pass filter (Q5, R62–R67, C90, C91) to suppress unwanted lower noise signals. The filtered signals are applied to the AF mute circuit (IC7B), and then passes through the [VOLUME] control (VR board; R1) via the “VOL1” signal. The signals are applied to the AF power amplifier (IC6, pin 1). The output signal from IC6 (pin4) drives the internal (external) speaker.
Unquote
I thus assume the IC you are looking for is the IC described as IC 6.
Data sheet availible online: http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/sanyo/ds_pdf_e/LA4425A.pdf
The IC is a Sanyo LA4425A. A 5W Power amplifier.

Wharfedale Subwoofer problem

Take it to the shop from where you purchased it or try to web to get further information on their service outlets in your part of thw world. The problem is not a formidable one. It seems the IC in the Subwoofer and would not take more than half an hour to solve the problem. If it is under warranty get it replaced as well as the cables. Do not try to repair this yourself unless you know something about speakers and sound systems.
