I purchased a 5.0 cu ft freezer only 2 yrs ago. It has been in my clean dry basement since new. 3 days ago it quit working. The relay clicks, but the motor or fan do not run. What could be the problem? I cannot believe a chest freezer, that most people have for 15 to 20 yrs, only lasts 2. So disappointed.

You have one of three issues here.
Either the thermostat has gone bad,
The thermal cutout has gone bad ontop of the compressor,
or the capacitor is out for the compressor.

Take an hom meter and check the thermal cutout, it should read 0 ohms or "continuity" if it doesnt the cutout is bad.

The only real way to check the cap is with a cap meter.

as for the thermostat check it with a n hom meter to make sure you have good connections internal the thermostat.

SOURCE: new chest freezer not getting cold

I am having the same problem. How long did it take?
I bought mine second hand and think it may be broken. I plugged it in 8 hours ago. I can hear it running but it's not cold yet.

SOURCE: Outside of chest freezer gets hot

it is normal for outside to get hot. that is where the condensor coils are located. if unit is working don't worry.

Place a volt meter set for amp draw around one wire of the compressor. If you do not have a constant amp draw replace the start relay on the compressor.
If you do have a constant amp draw the compressor is bad or you have a refrigerant leak.
