I have a 5100 food processor which I have used occasionally ( a handful of times a year) for 5 years or so then not at all for the following 10 years or more. Started using again a few months ago at 2-4 times a month when suddenly yesterday while i was processing a cupful of roasted peanuts it suddenly dropped in speed to 2-4 revs a second. Any idea what may be wrong and how to fix?

SOURCE: It just stopped working

Remove the work bowl from the base of the food processor, and separate the bowl, lid, and pusher sleeve.
Plug the base into the wall outlet, turn the food processor ON, and then use a pen to press in the dark grey or black button on top of the base of the food processor - if you hear some kind of noise, then your motor is still good.
Put the work bowl on first, with the handle facing the front of the food processor.
Put the lid on, with the hollow feed tube facing the back of the processor.
Put the pusher sleeve in the lid, with the sliding lock switch facing the front of the processor.
Your processor should now turn on.

If your food processor still does not turn on, call Cuisinart and see if you are eligible for an in-warranty repair - it has a 3-year warranty.

Make sure work bowl handle is locked in so that the handle is facing the front of the processor, and that the feed tube and metal rod of the pusher are facing the back of the processor. If it is assembled in this way and still won't turn on, call Cuisinart for assistance, as you may have concelaed damage to one of the work bowl parts. 1-800-726-0190

Hi-

We have a Cuisinart and these tools are very rugged- so I doubt that the motor is bad. My only suggestion would be to make sure that the safety catch is being actuated when you click the cover clockwise to secure the mixing chamber. There is a hole in the housing that the acuator pin sticks into to disengage the safety switch. Perhaps the switch is not being pressed off.
