Question about 3Com Computers & Internet
Hi there .. a 3com 2824 Baseline Switch I am dealing with shows nothing but 24 ethernet ports. The IP address shown is not accessible. not a console port either, nor a pin, nor a hole.. or should a designated eth-port behave as one ? getting bored with it Any clue !?

To hard reset the switch back to the defaults
use a pen or sharp object and hold the reset button on back of the switch in - then unplug/plug back in the power while the reset button is still depressed until the power led goes to solid amber - The switch is now in fail safe mode - Connect your pc/laptop to one of the front panel ports and see if you can discover the switch - if you still can't then configure your pc/laptop to the 169.254.0.0 - class B network and run the discovery again
once you have discovered the switch and can login -hit the upgrade firmware button and reload the code - you can check the progress at the bottom of the screen which has a toolbar showing the status of the upgrade

SOURCE: I have one 3COM 4200
Are you using any firewall. If so, try disabling it and try to communicate the switch once again. I am sure it might be an issue with the security software.
Thanks and regards,

Is it hsappening with all the 24 ports or with some ports ?
Might be an indiacation towards the duplex mismatch.
are you getting CRC errors on the interfaces ?

SOURCE: Ho to reset D-Link DES-1228P
This article teach you how to D-Link router to restore factory settings,di-524 as an example.
Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.
Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release. (Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure.)
Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset.
Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults.
