I believe the brake/clutch shaft fits inside the forward/reverse foot pedal tube. Any rust buildup between the two will make it hard to move the forward/reverse foot pedal. Typical issue when the unit is stored outside exposed to rain and snow. Try liberal applications of PB Blaster or similar rust penetrant at the ends of the forward/reverse pedal shaft.

SOURCE: John Deere L120 transmission high pitch noise and no forward move

Try jacking the unit up. Start it up and try moving pushing the forward and reverse back and forth and see if it does it then. It sounds like an oil way in the hydrostatic unit has a check valve stuck. Of course make sure that the fluid lever is up. Hope this will help you. donnyb60

SOURCE: Loss of drive in a Craftsman Lawn tractor

I also have a Craftsman tractor with the same problem. Sears repairman said it needed a new transmission and it would cost $1,400 to install. A new one is about $1,000. Anyway, if you remove the battery and the battery tray under the seat it will expose the transmission fill hole (hex). I opened the top and it looked empty. I had a bottle of 90 weight gear oil in my shop and filled the transmission to the top. I have not had any problems with it since. $4.00 bottle of oil verses a new tractor is worth a try.

SOURCE: Was mowing when it just stopped going forward. It

Under the mower below the seat of the rider, at the rear of the tractor, look up and you will find the transmission there. There is a belt that runs on the pulley under there, and this belt can slip off when it gets worn or stretched. Sort of a tough spot to get to but, that is most probably cause.

Husqvarna LT-18542 lawn tractor dies after it is started. Carburetor was cleaned ignition coil and spark plug are good.

Check that the ignition module and the fuel solenoid remain powered when ignition switch returns to the RUN position.

The mOOOoof sound is the leaf valve in the crankcase breather. As the engine spins down and the crankcase pressure drops, the leaf may resonate. Some do some don't.

As a test you might try adding fuel (starter fluid, carb clean, or combustible brake clean). Remove the air filter and as it dies spray a shot of fluid into the carb throat. If it picks back up you know it's a fuel problem and not ignition.

Tractor husqvarna yta 18542. Sometimes it won,t go up a hill. It just stops. It,s only 6 months old. What are the 2 adjustment screws on the tranny. Do they have something to do with belt tension ?

There is no adjustments for the belt on the gearbox, there will a brake adjuster on the side, if the brake is badly adjusted it will increase the gearbox oil temperature resulting in loss of drive, slacken the 1/2 nut to reduce brake friction.

My husqvarna yta 18542 will go forward but not reverse

Linkage to the gear box reqires adjustment, look on top of the gear box and watch the movment from forward to neutral, then watch the movment from neutral to reverse thet should have approxamatly the same amount of movement, if not adjust the link rod.

Craftsman 42 in 19.5 unable to control speed forward motion

is this perhaps a hydro trans? if so, try putting the shift lever in neutral, then let off the brake pedal, use the shift lever to go forward and to neutral to stop - same with reverse, don't even use the brake pedal except for emergency stops. if it's a manual shift, it's possible the belt is incorrect, and/or the belt guides are bent or the belt is improperly routed - the belt guides are important as they allow the belt to "blossom" off the engine pulley, reducing the "shock" load when engaged - hope this helps

The drive pedal is stuck forward and wont budge along with the brake pedal...

Drop mower deck and have a look.
Both rods run to the rear on the right side.
Possibly something interfering.
