Shoprider 888 mobility scooter, when you plug the charger in the scooter the green light just blinks on the charger. Tried 3 chargers. The battery is not completely dead, I can still ride it.

The type of battery these mobility scooters use do not charge if the battery gets really flat. I had a relative who had his scooter taken off him by the nursing home and they left it stored in a shed without plugging it into a charger . Once it got flat the batteries would not charge at all. If only they had left it on a float charge . https://www.everybattery.com.au/deep_cycle_battery_charging.php

Go to the Shoprider website and look for the scooter. It might have a different model name than the one you own. Get the name and click on the user manuals for the model that resembles yours (PDF file) and print.

Check the voltage output of the charger. It should be about 28 volts. Most likely your batteries are dead (over 2 years old?)

SOURCE: just bought my dad a second hand go go 3 wheel elite scooter

Hi Linda. Sometimes if there is a blown fuse or faulty connector on the battery leads, the charger thinks the batteries are charged as the voltage coming out of the charger rises to the high level. Some chargers will cut out if this happens. It is probably not the charger.
Make sure the batteries are plugged in correctly, sometimes during transport they will get knocked and become disconnected.
Also make sure that the battery terminals are not loose where the wires connect to the batteries.
Good luck. Neil.

SOURCE: I needto replace the battery charger on my Rascal 600F scooter

Hi. Most chargers with only two wires, have a small bridge wire from the
black ( negative ) wire to the middle terminal of the connector. This disables the controller while the machine is charging. The charger will still work without this bridge wire, but the scooter will still operate normally.
There are a few different chargers around that have an internal relay that disables the scooter, but these chargers are normally "on-board" chargers.
Good luck. Neil.

Why won't batteries charge?

Those chargers are designed to turn solid green when the batteries are fully charged. When batteries are less than new and have some time on them they will not charge as much as a new one. It is conceivable that either the battery condition is not the best there is or that perhaps there may be something wrong with the charger.

I suspect it is the new batteries not being so new.

I need a new battery and charger and every where I have called either pushes me off to some plaace else that doesn't answer or a place never calls me back. Where can I get these items?

The type of batteries required by your scooter are 12volt 10 Amps, you will need two of them. They can most likely be purchased at any industrial battery store like Interstate Battery or Batteries Plus. For the charger, you will most likely need to contact Shoprider direct OR a licensed distributor of Shoprider products for that to make sure that the charger will fit into your scooter. Shoprider Mobility is 1-800-743-0772. Another company that sells Shoprider products and may be able to assist you is Marc's Mobility at 800-677-6293.
I hope this information is helpful- good luck!

Hi,

That really sounds like the batteries need replacing but first check the battery connections.

Are you sure the battery charger is working correctly ?, can you try another charger ?

Scooter batteries will not charge. Green light on charger comes on briefly and fan tarts momentarily. Does green/yellow flash mean disconnection as indicated on the charger?

ok, this could be a dodgy connection with the batteries or the charger is at fault ?

1. try another charger
2. check the batteries if possible on another scooter.

3. check the connection on the battery and the charge socket connector.

Regards
GeWiz.
