The type of battery these mobility scooters use do not charge if the battery gets really flat. I had a relative who had his scooter taken off him by the nursing home and they left it stored in a shed without plugging it into a charger . Once it got flat the batteries would not charge at all. If only they had left it on a float charge .

Go to the Shoprider website and look for the scooter. It might have a different model name than the one you own. Get the name and click on the user manuals for the model that resembles yours (PDF file) and print.

Check the voltage output of the charger. It should be about 28 volts. Most likely your batteries are dead (over 2 years old?)

Hi Linda. Sometimes if there is a blown fuse or faulty connector on the battery leads, the charger thinks the batteries are charged as the voltage coming out of the charger rises to the high level. Some chargers will cut out if this happens. It is probably not the charger.
Make sure the batteries are plugged in correctly, sometimes during transport they will get knocked and become disconnected.
Also make sure that the battery terminals are not loose where the wires connect to the batteries.
Good luck. Neil.

Hi. Most chargers with only two wires, have a small bridge wire from the
black ( negative ) wire to the middle terminal of the connector. This disables the controller while the machine is charging. The charger will still work without this bridge wire, but the scooter will still operate normally.
There are a few different chargers around that have an internal relay that disables the scooter, but these chargers are normally "on-board" chargers.
Good luck. Neil.
