It could be either. You will have to test voltage to burner. If it’s getting voltage to part of burner that’s not working, then burner is bad. If it’s not getting voltage, switch is bad.

SOURCE: Whirlpool electric Cooktop's one burner not heating

Hi,

Initially, it could either be:

  • open heating element (most likely);
  • open temperature limiter (least likely);
  • faulty/loose connection/wiring (a possibility).
Please confirm that it is a Whirlpool RCC3024 Electric Cooktop.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: RCC3024 cooktop one burner wont heat

Hi again,

It would seem you posted anew.

For some reason I could not locate related literature for a RCC3024LD01,although there are for LB01, LQ01 and a LT01. Most of the components inthese models could be checked with the use of a continuity tester(multitester VOM/DVM). The idea is to check for continuity of eachcomponent. If we are to assume that the heating element as a likelysuspect, it is a matter of checking if the coil is continuous, that isno break anywhere in between. The test prods of the continuity testerwould be applied to the two (2) terminals of the heating element andthe tester should deflect/display how much is the resistance. Normalreading shouold be pretty low while no deflection/reading indicates anopen coil and therefore would require replacement.

These additional documents may be of help to you:

  1. exploded parts diagram;
  2. parts list.
Cheers.

SOURCE: Dual element burner on glasstop range...inner element stays on

It is the burner control (behind the knob). The triac in the control has failed. $50 item, 10 minute change. Just make note which wire goes to which terminal.

I doubt that it is the control board, as the board has little to do with the stove top, but rather controls the display and the oven temperature/feedback monitoring.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Flat cooktop burner not heating up

Try cleaning the knobs. I did the same thing you did (turning the circuit breaker off but that did not solve the problem.

My wife just tried turning the knobs and that seemed to work. It appears that one of the knobs may have been so sticky that the though it's in the OFF position it thinks it's still ON.

Electric Stove Burner won't shut off after element malfunction

(no model number received)

My best advise would be to cut the power at the
MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER panel... and leave
the RANGE powered down until a new
ELEMENT and TEMPERATURE SWITCH are
installed... (very dangerous).

I am guessing... but I suspect the SWITCH got
SERIOUSLY DAMAGED when the element
did it's melt-down (live power my be present)

WITHOUT a model number that is
TOTAL SPECULATION...

Hardware stores commonly carry GENERIC
(UNSATISFACTORY ... in my opinion) SWITCHES.

I would got to a SERIOUS parts house and order
both the element and the SWITCH...

If you have your OWNERS MANUAL... Look
up the REAL PART NUMBERS on eBay
(for serious savings)...

Frigidaire stove front large/small burner combination. Large burner works but the small burner in the centre of the large burner does not come on at all with any heat. ??

This is a inner/outer burner type assembly? Sounds like a glass top.
Either way, your switch for that burner or the burner needs to be replaced.
If you are able and it is possible, inter change switches to see if it makes a difference. Interchange Large with large, small with small.
If yous switches are connected as one unit, you will not be able to do this. Sorry, I have not looked up your wiring diagram.

I turn my burner on at medium -no problem. When I

If you cannot regulate the temp on any surface element the problem is not in the element but rather the "infinite" switch. You need to replace the switch's if you can't control the hi and low on the burners. The switches will be different for the small burner and the large burner because of the different wattage on the burners.

GE electric stove problems, our stove has 3 small burners and one big burner. When we use the big burner at medium heat it does fine then all of a sudden it starts glowing bright red and burns whatever is...

Replace the infinite heat control switch for that burner. (the burner switch that you turn with the knob to select the temp setting) If you list a full model number (usually behind the lower drawer panel on the frame of the range) I can look up the part number for you. It is not a very difficult repair.

Kenmore electric stove model c880.6383880 left front burner does not work....it is not the element itself as it heats up on another burner.

hi,

sounds like you have the old-style coil elements on you stove.

your problem is the switch under the element, called the infinite switch. i would suggest to have a technician replace it. they usually charge for the labour but if you have never done it before, it's money well spent.

I want to replace an erratic element on a really old Viking stove. The new element plugs into a new recepticle,but the latter has 2 wires, whereas the old stove has 4 wires that were connected directly...

This can't be done. The old elements were a two part element with 2 seperate coils. The heat was controlled by using one or both elements at different voltages to select the heat output. The new 2 wire element just pulses the current on and off to control heat. It is just one big element. Try to purchase a generic replacement burner that will fit the hole. Usually these come with the chrome ring and everything. They are somewhat adjustable but will not match your existing burners. GE used to make this. Another possibility is if the control to the burner is a knob that turns, Replace the switch with a new infinate heat switch. If this switch will mount properly. Just grab the two 220 volt legs from the old switch, Ignore and tape the neutral, ground, and pilot leads. Connect to the line side of the switch. Use only 2 of the old wires going to the burner and connect them to the new one.
