SOURCE: Chevy 454 back fire

Ignition timing is set by the computer as long as the distributor pickup point is within reason.

It could be running too lean. One of the TBI injectors may be sticking or not working (wiring or computer problem), or fuel pressure could be low.

Sounds like too much fuel, could be a leaking injector, faulty pressure regulator, or blockage of air intake. Did you replace the injectors and pressure regulator when you worked on the throttle body ? Can you see normal fuel spray on both injectors when the engine is running ?

1995 chevy tahoe 4wd. 5.7 liter when cooled down, starting is normal . Right after, engine almost stalls but Idle air control kicks in and keeps it running. eventually it is idling but rouph. On...

If your vehicle has one, and I think it does, check your EGR system. If the egr valve is full of carbon, it can be partially open, creating a vacuum leak. If the egr valve solenoid is bad, it could be opening the valve at the wrong time, also creating a vacuum leak. Unplug the egr vacuum hose, plug the open end of the hose and start it and see what it does. A picture of the egr is below.

2000 grand cherokee laredo, 4.7 engine, very rough idle. all cylinders do not seem to be firing (not positive on this). have to play with gas to keep jeep running but has very rough idle.

If your engine light is on, please get a free scan at your local parts chain and send us the trouble codes. Recommend you start by removing the idle air control valve and cleaning the valve and passages as well as the throttle body with carb cleaner. Check the operation of the valve by hooking up the connector and turning on the key (do not start the car) while it is off the engine to see if it actuates. Please let me know if you have questions.

  1. Remove air duct and air resonator box at throttle body.
  2. Disconnect electrical connector from IAC motor (#4 in picture).
  3. Remove two mounting bolts (screws).
  4. Remove IAC motor from throttle body.
  5. clean valve, passages, and throttle body (#2)

What causes the truck to stall when cut the ac on

it could be the iac(idle air control) not adjusting for the extra load on the engine,

After replacing battery truck will not remain running in idle in drive while air conditioning is on. will run if air conditioner is off

Cleaning out your throttle body will probably fix this. Sounds weird, but your throttle body builds up junk over time and if you disconnect your battery, your computer gets reset to stock settings and thinks it is getting the same amount of air as when it had a new (clean) throttle body. This messes up the airflow calculations, especially when the AC kicks in. Get a bottle of throttle body cleaner and be very careful cleaning out the back of the unit as it has some razor sharp edges. Reinstall and start the Trailblazer. Should be fine.

Truck running funny sometimes and other times running perfect.

if the exhaust blows black when this issue starts, then probably a bad regulator, which the check engine light will come on then go off a few times telling you a code, oxygen sensors...if not,try replacing the throttle position sensor, its tough because its at the bottom of the throttle body, and the screws rust in and sometimes breaks,so the throttle body has to come have to figure out where the gas smell is coming from at least,it could be blowing back into the air breather.also check the vacumn lines(green hose and red hose) on top for cracks.the red should be for the regulator

Engine idle speed

Sounds like you idle air control valve is starting to mess up. You can actually take this off and clean it with throttle body cleaner and it should help get your idle back to normal. As is sounds the idle air control valve controls how fast/slow your car idles. It is located on the throttle body normally held on with a couple of screws. The throttle body is where the air duct hose coming from the air filter box ends at the engine block. Here is a picture of what you are looking for: a483326.jpg
Make sure that you clean the valve portion and not the electrical plug with the throttle body cleaner. Let it air dry or blow lightly with compressed air before putting it back on. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for using FixYa!
