We have an hp pavilion with a BIOHD-B error...any suggestions?

BIOHD-B or 8 is Basic Input Output Hard Drive, this is a sign that your hardrive is on its way out, and you need to back up all of the contents as soon as possible.

The faults that cause this error are generally the drive electronics not reading and sending the data properly, or the phisical working of the hardrive not reading the data properly therefore not sending in correctly. The way to check for this is if you hear any slight clunking or clicking noises coming from the harddrive when in use, at the moment they could be quite quiet and hardly noticeable, but will progressively get worse.
My advise is to back up the drive and try a low level format, and see if that fixes the problem or buy a new Hard drive. You can download a low level format tool fron this link:

Error Message BIOHD-4

I had this with a 3 week old HP (and a BIOHD-8 as well)

A temp fix at least, is to use knoppix, go to the partition program, and delete the main partition, and then add a new one  formatted to NTFS. You can then use the recovery discs.

You should also be able to access the drive via knoppix to recover data before you delete the partition, either to flash storage or across a network. I managed to recover about 55gb of data that way (I do a lot of video work)
