I am running XP, i have tried the system restore and it messed it up even more. I do not have anything on it other than my sons games. Will the cd run me more than just getting a new computer?

If all else fails, Bestbuyparts.com now sells this computer systems restore disk. It retails for about $30.00. I had to use mine recently and it worked perfectly.

What OS is it running on? WindowsXP? Vista? etc... I wouldn't even bother locating a restore disk, they are junk. Depending on what the problem is, it may be as simple as running "System restore" located at Start Button/all programs/acccessories/system tools/ system restore.. now if it won't boot or is having problems booting.Find an XP cd or Vista cd. Boot the computer to that.. Choose R for recovery console when prompted.
When you get to the command shell type FIXBoot... this will create a new boot sector.. if the problem is deeper than that we can run a FIXMBR (fix Master boot record) running this command has been known to have adverse effects like losing data so we want to make sure you get a good backup of any critical data you have. Please provide more details and I will help you out.

Ooops didn't see the comment where it doesn't recognise the HD. fwadley is correct. If its not detecting the hd during POST then you have to get in the bios and have it detect your hard drive, on most systems this is done via the ESC key or the DEL key. Have you opened the case and checked your connections are in tight? Sometimes re-seating the RAM / processor will resolve these issues as well.. does the PC beep at you when you turn it on.. if so how many beeps.. the number of beeps corespond with error codes.

I am fairly confident due to the fact that you are not using the CD to install and run a version of XP you are not violating any license agreements via microsoft to use a different XP disk to run recovery console. So any XP cd will work.. just make sure if its home edition you use the home edition CD... the same goes with XP pro as well.
Once you get it running i strongly recommend going tohttp://housecall.trendmicro.com orhttp://activescan.pandasoftware.com
and running their free onlince scanners. they do an outstanding job at cleaning up malware, spyware and viruses and best of all they are free!

oh! i have seen that happen before with defrag.. it could be bad sectors on the HD causeing this.. have you tried booting into safemosde? to boot to safe mode right when you turn your pc on you get the manufactures splash scree.. well RIGHT before it switches to the black XP screen with the scrollining bar start hitting F8 over and over.. this will bring up a boot menu.. select safe mode or safe mode with networking if you like... oncce booted to the desktop go to stat /run/ type chkdisk in the run box.. thiwill analyse your HD and move data off of any bad sectors if possible

Start computer, hit the Esc key when it starts up, till the set up page comes up find the hard disk and hit enter save and restart. Windows should come back up. What kind of computer year? Windows 98? XP?

How do I restore to factory settings . I have restore disc part 900345 when I tried using it nothing really prompted me what to do . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You need to change the boot order to make the machine read the cd drive first. When starting the computer you need to press F2.This will get you into the start up bios menu.Find the boot order and make it use the cd drive as the first device. Now restart your machine withe the cd in the drive.

First try a simple windows pc restore, go to the start menu, then to help and restore center and click on "restore my computer to an earlier date" then choose a date before your son mucked up your PC. Boot in safe mode if it wont boot (repeatedly tap f8 during boot)

If this doesnt work ring your pc manufacturer and they will send you restore disks.

If you have built the PC yourself ring microsoft and give them you windows product key and they will send you a new copy of windows.

Help... i lost my Insignia Restore DVD...

You will not be able to set all the programmes back to original as you have no disc and wont be able to get a replacement unless you have spoken to Insignia support, but you can format the pc to the operating systems original installation without the installed programmes by using a friends XP cd, but use you own product code number which will be on a sticker on your tower system, as its the license you pay for and not the actual cdrom.
