SOURCE: HP Deskjet 5150 - top cover open

I had the same problem, and the cause turned out to be the cover switch not being fully pushed in. On the underside right edge of the top cover, there's a little triangular protrusion that pushes down a black rectangular button (the cover switch) when the cover is closed. The problem occurs because the flimsy top cover is made of plastic and flexes slightly when you close it. This means that sometimes, the right edge of the cover won't seat properly even though it appears as if the cover is closed all the way. When this happens, the triangular protrusion isn't fully pressing the switch down.

To test if this is this is happening, send a print job to the printer and wait for the "top cover is open" error message to appear. Next, open the top cover door and locate the cover switch. It's a little black button in a rectangular hole at the right edge of the doorway near the ink cartridges. Take a pen or a car key and use it to push the cover switch down. You can also use your fingertip to do this if it's skinny enough. If you keep the cover switch pressed down, the power button should start blinking to indicate a print job is coming through. If the print job actually starts printing, then you know the problem was the cover switch.

In my case, all I had to do the fix the problem was close the cover and make sure it was fully seated by firmly pressing down the right edge of the cover until I heard a plasticky "click" noise. After that, the problem went away.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: my mp600 keeps saying close inner cover-which is closed

I had the same issue, turning off didn't solve it.
There's a plastic flap the width of the print tray just inside that I flipped up and it solved this problem. It is directly in front of the ink tanks. I'm assuming we flipped it down and forgot about it. It seems it needs to stay up, although you wouldn't notice it when it flips down when you close the top, as it closes just fine with it down. It's easy to overlook. This took me a few hours to realize.

The top of the flap has a half circle cut out of it in the middle.

Printer fault

I would start byuninstalling and reinstalling any printer program software that came with your printer. After uninstall is component drivers is done restart your computer and reinstall any software that came with the printer *install software befor you plug in your USB cable. Once everything is reinstalled plug the usb in and itshould work. If your printer is a Wifi printer follow the steps above and use the usb cable for initial installation from there you can set up your wifi and then unplug your USB cable and you should be good to go. Even if the printer is wifi it is best to set itup using a usb cable for the initial set up so that your computer recognizes your printer. Best of luck

Service Call 069: Error

My printer (Oki C330dn) experienced a hardware issue that placed it in a mode where it displays a 'Service Call 069: Error' on startup after the hardware problem was corrected. I used the following button combination at startup, which corrected my issue. Press and hold the BACK, DOWN ARROW, and OK buttons and power-on the unit. Continue to hold the buttons until you see RAM CHECK and some asterisks then release. This forces the unit to ignore all warnings and errors while placing it in an online mode. My printer came up to a ready state and worked normally. The next time I turned it on, it started up without any errors.

Ran out of paper and now makes horrible grinding noise just inside the cover where the paper in the top feeds goes in.

Unplug the printer and open up everything, looking for the paper jam. Use caution when removing the image drums as they are light sensitive. You don't want them exposed to light for more than 2 or 3 minutes. Hopefully you'll find and be able to remove the paper jam and everything will be fine. It seems strange that this problem presented itself right after you ran out of paper...

Paper Jam Message

Thanks for the solution. I have a oki B4300, same problem.
I opened top, removed toner/drum. On your left, in front, there is metal roller held by springs. Plastic strip is just in front of this. Two square windows under plastic strip should look dark.
In my case, the Left "window "was white. This was a very small piece of paper which also extended under a small, moveable magnetic switch to the far left. I removed this paper by grabbing it (next to the switch) with a pair of surgical forceps, gently twisting it until it could be pulled out. No need to remove any parts. It now is fixed!
Thanks again.
