Many reasons, may be zoom control motor N/w or the controlling cursor n/good.

Instructions for this are probably contained within the camera manual, but be warned - whereas optical zooms actually magnify the original scene, digital zooms rely on internal software to interpolate pixels to give the impression of magnification, which can lead to disappointing results. It can be better to shoot at the maximum optical zoom, then use software of your computer to enlarge the image in a more controlled fashion - the algorithms in the computer software may also be capable of more subtle results.
Don't forget also that the longer focal length lens you use, the more camera shake will be magnified, so a sturdy support is essential.
