Hi, Quick reference is just for simplified configuration. For detailed configuration go to the reference manual. Download: Hopefully you know about Code families and specifications? If not - you can learn it here.
We have had the problem, that the scanner generated a crazy sound after it dropped onto the concrete floor. I think the buzzer came loose. Best thing to do on a short time basis is to disable the beep via the manual. You can find the manual here:
I also purchased a Symbol LS4071 and when I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector - the connector is split like a "Y") I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector. The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!
If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it. Hopefully this will also work for you. Symbol's technical support # is (800) 722-6234.
Whether or not you can set this feature depends on which interface type you are using if you are using wedge interface then the procedure is described below:
The extended Header/Terminator keys for Wedge Interface users can be
customized by defining them through a simple keyboard setting procedure.
For example, the Numeric Keypad keys can be set for use as Headers or
Terminators by substituting the default extended keys using this procedure.
The type of computer or terminal must be selected before activating the keyboard
setting command.
Press and release a key to set it.
Some characters may require more than one key pressed simultaneously during
normal use (refer to the manual of your PC or terminal for keyboard use). The exact
sequence must be indicated to the reader in this case pressing and releasing the
different keys.
Example:
If one has to press the "Shift" and "4" keys simultaneously on the keyboard to
transmit the character "$" to the video, to set the "$", press and release "Shift" then
press and release "4".
Each pressed and released key must generate an acoustic signal on the reader,
otherwise repress the key. Never press more than one key at the same time, even if
this corresponds to the normal use of your keyboard.
Press "Backspace" to correct a wrong key entry. In this case the reader emits 2
beeps.
Note: "CAPS LOCK" and "NUM LOCK" must be off before starting the keyboard
setting procedure. "SHIFT" must be repressed for each character and cannot
be substituted by "CAPS LOCK".
