Question about Marantz Audio Players & Recorders

Open Question

I have a Marantz NR1606 that is 6 years old. All of a sudden the subwoofer does not receive a signal from the amp. I have checked the setup and all speakers get the soft noise, except the subwoofer.

SOURCE: The subwoofer is not working on our Bose 5.1 surround speakers.

First of all you should never indicate speakers as Large unless they can produce below 20Hz (which is very low), otherwise always set your speakers to Small.

Second, did you also indicate in teh setupmenu that you have a subwoofer? Because if all speakers are set to Large some receivers will omit a subwoofer because Large indicates the speakers can reproduce all sounds even below 20Hz.

So walk through your setup menu, say YES when the sub (SFW) is asked for and that should do the trick.

SOURCE: Marantz SR-18EX; Front left channel crackles

The f-l channel of the sr18, & sr18ex & sr19 is a common failure location due to the heating and cooling over the years. The crackling an/or distortion, is most commonly due to the amplifier going into a high idle, or d.c. offset that can no longer be controlled by the adjustment potentiometers on the board. usually the two 2sc3200 transistors become unstable, and as well a 47mfd and a 470 mfd elect. caps nearby. Also distortion is caused by one or more of the zener and germanium diodes all grouped near the big dual ceramic white resistor. The amp block is held in by six screws. first remove the cross bracket, then cut the cable tie free from the hole on the board. Ten screws hold the top board on, the pull the boards apart from the connectors. before replacing it, resolder ALL of the connector pins to BOTH boards.

SOURCE: Loud buzzing from Kef PSW1000 Subwoofer

yes. A good idea. Kill power to the sub, then unplug and remove everything from the sub. go ahead and plug it in again and check for buzzzz.
That is test one. if you have buzz still, its the sub assembly. bad luck, but not impossible. If the buzz is gone its one of the signals to the sub. They can produce a buzzz without any signal coming from your stereo equipment. Replace the feed line, enjoy! BTW...Kef sure does sound clean. good choice.

I'm looking to connect a Marantz SR5001 to a Subwoofer, and there is currently no soundcoming through the sub.

On the SR series, you should find the setting for this in the setup menu on your remote. It will be easiest if you have a TV connected for video display. On the remote hit Amp -> Menu -> Speaker Setup -> Manual Setup. This should allow you to set the 'Subwoofer' setting to Yes. The subwoofer will need to be plugged in. If the setting cant be changed, try plugging in the Audassey microphone and run the calibration program which should detect the sub if its plugged in.

Setup help for record player (Pro-Ject Carbon Debut) and pre-amp (ART DJPRE II) into Denon AVR-1909. I have everything setup properly, but I cannot get the subwoofer to turn on with my 2-channel settings...

In two channel mode, there will be no subwoofer signal unless you change the front speakers to 'small'. If you set the front speakers as 'large' then the full frequency spectrum will be sent to the front speakers, and none to the sub. Switching from bluray may keep the surround configuration until you restart as you mentioned.

Hi, I have a denon AVR 889 about 4 years old and the subwoofer suddenly stopped working, how can i check if its the amp or the sub thats the problem?

A Denon AVR 889 is not a sub so we don't know anything about the sub in question.

Maybe the existence of the sub is no longer set in the AVR. Look at the speaker definitions first before going to wild.

Try another cable to the sub.

OR, run the sub's signal supply cable to one of the Tape Outs on the receiver and tune in something on FM. If that works a) it will be loud, and b) go back to the SUB settings on the AVR.

Crack the sub open and access the terminals on the speaker itself. Disconnect them from internal components and run one of your amp channels directly to it. If it works, the amp or signal path are dead. If it doesn't work, it's a dead driver.

Center channel dosen't work on 10 yr old marantz 500$ receiver. Should I just buy a new one?

I'd do some more investigation first. Have you determined if the amplifier for the channel works or if it's a preamp problem using the built-in speaker setup controls?

With this unit's great audio processing features you might be able to bypass a failed amplifier using the pre-outs and drive an external amp for the missing channel.

You could always just get a modest stereo amp (like a Carver M-100T and bridge it), or use the extra channel for another center speaker or a subwoofer, for example.

My subwoofer isn t working with my MarantzSR3001.

If the sub is good, then check the cable to the sub, check the level in receiver settings and check your surround modes. sounds like your problem is in setup menu if the sub is ok. Hope this helps

1974 marantz model 2325 reciever and want to hook up a powered subwoofer ?

Hi jdwoomer

BEST WAY
Your amp has PreOut and Main In RCA connectors on the rear, you could make up an adaptor cable (or buy one) to split the post vol control signal at this point, and then use line level from here to drive the sub.

OR

Most powered subs have a speaker "high level" input, where the sub "sniffs" off signal from your speaker output. When setup like this the speakers and amp connect to the back of the Sub.

Either way, you can do it... Marantz were making nice gear back then... a collectable these days :) Any questions, I am here to help.

Sr7200 LFE (sub woofer) output stopped working

Chances are if The Receiver only has sound in Stereo Direct Mode and all surround modes and Sub out are Inop the DSP (Digital Signal Processing) Card is most likey defective. These boards are not available from marantz (D&M Holdings) and must be Component level repaired which usually is not cheap. If Only the Sub out is not working check setup to be sure sub woofer is set for on. Also If On Screen setup menu does not appear on video monitor Unit may need to be Reset manually which entails discharging a Capaitor on main P.C.B Contact [email protected] for details
