SOURCE: turn off write protection on a sd micro card

If you are using it with the SD adaptor, the swith at the side marked lock is not to secure the micro sd card within the adaptor. This is the write protection. If you set this to the 'unlocked' position (up) then you should be able to write files onto it!

It sounds like the locking switch on the side of the SD card is in the "locked" position. Remove the card from the camera and slide the tiny switch on the card to the unlocked position. That should do it.

New 164GB SD card when put in to either of my 2 cameras a message reinsert card appears on screen. No further operation can be done until card is removed. Can this problem be fixed?

The 64 GB cards are not SD cards. They are SDXC cards and need a different interface. The card lloks the same, but the electronics is different. Your camera or any device you are using should be SDXC compatible.
On this page, scroll down half a page and look how the compatibility works for SD, SDHC and SDXC.

Get it off "protected card" mode?

If the card is a Secure Digital (SD), SDHC or SDXC there is a write protect switch on the card which can be slid up and down. Up means it can be written too, down means the card cannot be written too. If the card is in the position where you can write to it but the camera is saying the card is still protected it maybe a faulty card or the camera may have a fault.

Wont accept a new 64GB sd card

The XP10 works with SD cards, 2GB or smaller, and SDHC cards, 4GB to 32GB. It will not work with 64GB SDXC cards.

What does card protected mean?

Wheb you have a SD, SDHC or SDXC memory card and you put the switch to the lock position, the card is protected, That means nothing can change the files that are stored on the card. Not by wiring, not by deleting and not by formatting. Keep the lock with up, towards the golden connection points.
On the picture the 64 GB card is unlocked. `the 32 GB card is locked 8ab871eb-243a-48dd-a8d8-58e5df95d568.jpg

I put in an SD card and it only records to the memory. How do I get it to record to the SD?

Hi Nancy,

I have a couple of generic suggestions. First, make sure the SD card lock tab is in the "unlock" position. When in the lock (or sometimes called "write protect") position, it will not accept data to be saved.

Secondly, check to make sure that the card is a type that is compatible with your camera. If you camera specs an SD card, install and SD card. If it requests and SDHC card, provide and SDHC, and so on. There have been several versions of cards that all LOOK the same: SDSC, SDHC & SDXC. The "SDSC" (Secure Digital Stand Capacity - at introduction was called simply "SD" as it was the only capacity) type has a capacity of 4GB or less. The first devices could not access areas memory in the 4GB + range. Next came the "SDHC" (High Capacity) card. These cards were originally set for 4GB capacity and greater. As the older SD devices faded away, the low end capacity of SDHC cards dropped from 4GB to 1GB or smaller. The SDXC card (eXtended Capacity) and SDIO (Input/Ouput) will supersede the SDHC types as time advances.

Lastly, do not use card types (or those with greater capacities) that do not appear in a compatibility chart for the camera (or any device for that matter). When trouble arises, use only recommended hardware (memory cards) as shown in manuals or online info.

Good luck!
