okay, if i just plug it in, the LED lights up and it blinks the noise is just from the flashing LED. when i plug it into my computer the computer wont recognize it at all and the led doesnt stay on like it used to

well the beep well it sounds more like a squeek like if youd turn a cork in a bottle its kinda like that and its in sync with the light but yeah it s comming from the hard drive

thanks for the advice, i already planned on doing something similar to that. i already took off the encasing and just have the drive, i unplugged the sata cable/power cord and it has another slot in the back which nothing was in, its has 6 prongs i think. i think its another power thing, and i remember when i was fooling around in my desktop computer it had something similar so im going to try to plug the drive into the inside of my computer and hopefully that will recognise it, and it also might be the power thing. like when i plug it in and i had everything apart the like soft clicks didnt really actually seem to be coming from the drive but actually the outlet i dont think its the actual power cable because i can use it for my laptop as well and it works but the whole thing it plugs into, my apologies if non of this makes sence im just bad at explaining things because i dont know what things are exactly called, and im a terrible speller so dont mind the spelling errors

If you put your ear next to it, apart from the beep, what sort of sound is the hard disk inside making? whirring? loud clicks, soft clicks, or what is it? Are you saying that you plug it in to the computer with the USB, and it's not recognised by the computer?

If its in Warranty, and doesn't work with any computer, then you might prefer to send it away to get it fixed. Here's an alternative.

It may be a problem with the power supply to the drive, the USB cable from the drive, or the electronics inside the box, or the drive itself. It's worth working from the outside inwards:

  • Try swapping the USB cable with another
  • Try a different power supply to it
If you've been able to establish that neither the power supply nor the USB cable is the problem, then the next stage may be worthwhile:
Try cracking the case open very carefully to extract the HDD, and loading it into a new case with USB outlet (will have to buy, around $30?).

I'll tell you my story: I had a LaCie external HDD (which turned out to be a nice Seagate Barracuda IDE inside) which died, light flashing, not recognised by the computer. Yours is a little different, because it is designed to switch off after a short while if it doesn't get a connection with the computer. My light just stayed red.
Anyway, I tried it on a different computer with the same result, then read LaCie website, which had an item about hard clicks and soft clicks. If the drive had hard clicks, I could say goodbye, but if the sounds were soft, the disk was probably OK. I wrote to their support people and they gave me detailed instructions for safely extracting the HDD, and what sort it was (PATA/IDE) so I could go and buy the right sort of cage to replace the old one, which I did. The new cage even came packaged with a screwdriver, as well as screws etc, so I could bolt it in myself, following the instructions. I got it all working fine within a day!

So, I'm hoping your problem is just the cage, and the HDD inside is still OK.

You'll probably need to use a flathead screwdriver to pry the case apart, here's some people who have been grappling with it.

I just wanted to add to this since I have a lot of experience with these drives. 9 times out of 10 if you are getting that beeping noise it is because your USB port is not providing enough power for the drive. Use the supplemental power cable or plug the drive into a port that will provide enough power.

My monitor receives power, but doesn't receive signal from my computer. The green light blinks like there is something wrong and there is a faint beeping noise.

1st you separate you monitor from you Computer.
  • Now On your Monitor and check there is Faint beeping noise.
  • If there is no noise and after sometime the monitor light will change in orange colour.
  • It means there is no fault in monitor.
  • And also check Data cable of monitor is it right.
  • It means there is problem with you computer .
  • You Check the VGA Card.
  • I think there is problem with your VGA Card.

The AC Adapter makes a beeping noise and doesn't charge the batt.

I would verify that the battery will take a charge. If the battery is bad, the charger will tell you that it is not charged. It will not tell you why, just that it is not charged. If not plugged into the computor, again, battery is not charged. Hence, the beep.

Good Luck and hope this helps.

Acer travelmate 4000 laptop Big problem

I guess I can assume that you have it plugged into the ac power, so you know its not a power problem. We also know its not a problem with the power switch since the light turns on. So that leaves, motherboard, cpu, and ram possible problems. Ram would unlikely cause such a hault. Even with no ram, I believe the computer would make horrible beeping noises. So if its a problem with the motherboard or cpu, its pretty much trash, unless you want to waste the money on ebay or some place for another cpu to try to swap.
