If your air conditioner displays E1 in the display panel and won't turn on, it means that the Room Thermistor (a device connected to the thermostat that detects room temperature) is shorted or defective, and you need to have your air conditioner serviced. If it displays E2, E3, or any other E error, you also need to have your air conditioner serviced. To arrange for service, contact Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864). Have the model number of your air conditioner on hand when you call.

Unplug it. Wait a few minutes. Hold in the Power button while plugging it back in and keep the button held down until a beep is heard (~5 sec). Unplug the air conditioner, then plug it in again.
Note: some units require using the Mode switch, rather than Power.

If your a/c unit is portable, and E1 code most always is "air filter cleaning time" or" water level to high ".
To reset air filter interval turn unit off at power switch then unplug.Hold power switch down while plugging in....unit will go through a short self check then beep.Release power button after beep.Unit should now be reset.
To reset water level....just drain some.....not all.
Most portables use water for increase cooling......so leave some in.
SOURCE: What does E1 mean when it is showing up on a
1. Power down the air conditioner using the "power" button on the front
panel.
2. Unplug the air conditioner from the wall socket.
3. Hold the front panel "power" button down and plug the air
conditioner in. Continue to hold the power button down as the machine
goes through a brief test sequence (fan & compressor each come on
briefly, etc). There is a "beep" sound at the end of the test sequence,
and the machine will be off. At this point, you can release the power
button.
4. Unplug the air conditioner.
5. Plug the air conditioner back in.
6. Congratulations! You should now be able to operate the air
conditioner normally for another 720 hours, but only if you followed
the instructions above EXACTLY.
The E1 code is an error code that appears on the LED temperature display of some digital air conditioners. The error code could mean anything from dirty air filters to a damaged room thermistor, a safety connected to your thermostat that detects room temperature.
