Problem with F21 code on whirlpool duet sport

My washer flashes a F21 code and won't drain. I have to switch to drain and spin during normal wash cycle to get it to drain many times before it will start to spin

I had the same problem. take the bottom cover off of the front of the washer. on the right you will see a round white screw off cover, it is very tight, it unscrews counter clock-wise. pull this out and see if there is any debris in it. if you look into the hole on the right side there is a hole about 1 inch round, this is the pump opening. you may have to take the gray drain hose off of the back of the pump housing and feel if anything is stuck in there, in my case there was a penny stuck side ways blocking the flow of water. after i took it out the washer has been running great again. this is obviously a design flaw, that something that large could manage to get that far, lucky for me it didn't damage the pump impeller. hope this helps. this should take care of the SD and the F21 error codes.

Exactly what was wrong. 61 cents in change and a nail. One word of note, water will pour out when you remove the screw off cover, we used a trash bag to catch the water. Thank you sooooooo much, I was headed to the laundry mat the night before leaving on vacation. Jayshelby5 you are my hero.

I followed your advice and quickly fixed the problem. In my case there was three pennies a broken mechanical pencil, a broken pen and a ladies thong all packed tight with wet lint. It was amazing that any water had been able to pass through until the F21 error shut the machine down.

One comment below warned that water would be released from the filter basket when the white cover is unscrewed and suggested catching the water in a trash bag. Instead, I slid a shallow baking pan under the unit and held a wet vac to the lower right side of the white cap and released the water slowly. It took about five minutes to release about a gallon of water. However, The wet vac suctioned most of the water away and the baking pan caught the minimal amount of water that dripped through the drain hole directly below the filter basket.

I would also suggest emptying the wet clothes from the wash tub first. This allowed me to see how much water was actually in the washtub and allowed all the water to be released much faster than having to wait for the clothes to drain. Once completed, I put the clothes back in the basket and ran the spin/drain cycle before starting the entire load over again.

Ive had the same problem. I cleaned the filter out and it still wouldnt work the f21 still came back the next step is to replace the pump. I took the pump ofrf and found the little propeller that pumps the water was bent. After i changed out the pump that was pretty easy it worked fine just remember to empty your pockets before you load the washer a couple dollars in change can ruin the pump.

In my case, I would get either the Sd or F21 error codes. I checked the gray outlet hose, but found no obstructions. Removed the pump assembly and found nothing significant trapped into the filter. Pump itself looked fine (revolved in place with a soft snap after each revolution).
Then I started looking into what's going on before the pump. The washer has a black plastic bulb leading to the pump. Inside it there's some sort of white ball, apparently a valve of sorts. As long as the pump assembly is out, you can feel it with a finger. It wasn't obvious at the beginning, but there was a little sock stuck on top of that ball. Removed it, and all was working fine.

What does code f21 on a whirlpool duet mean?

The Whirlpool washer error code F21 means the washing machine has a "water draining issue", meaning the drain pump itself, or the drain hose is clogged and the washer is having problems draining the water out. In other words, the washer is taking too long to drain the water out of the tub.

My whirl pool duet sport keeps having an error message of f21 and 5d. i read that it means the water is not draining right. what can i do to fix this?

F21 means to a long drain.
Basically means that water is not pumping out quick enough. If all the drain lines have been checked for blockages and restrictions the manufacturer recommends the pump is replaced. Some times the impeller can become damaged or the motor which can cause the pump to work slower then it should causing this error code. If you took off the hose from the tub to the pump and found nothing then I doubt there is a blockage in the drum (it would have moved into the drain filter).

Sd or 5d error SUDS LOCK (OVERDOSE OF DETERGENT DETECTED DURING THE WASH CYCLE)
If suds are detected continuously by the pressure switch during the drain or spin phases, the washer will fill 4 liters of water and during 5 minutes the unit will rest without tumbling, the water will be drained and it will try to spin or drain again.

If too much detergent was used:
- Run the unit through a RINSE/SPIN cycle.
- Run a NORMAL cycle without adding any detergent.

This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. Check drain pump.
7. Check the pressure switch.
8. Verify CCU operation by running a Diagnostic Test or any cycle.

Hope this helps.

My washer stopped and was flashing F21 (drainage issue) so I called a plumber. He checked the hoses and removed the panel and cleaned the drain trap. It didn't fix the problem it's still won't drain. It...

The SUD message relates to overdose of detergent detected during the Wash Cycle.
This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent or excessive suds.
If too much detergent was used, run the washer through a Rinse/Spin cycle, then a Normal cycle, without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked. this seems to be the reason as to why your unit is not fixed even after trying to solve F21......

F28 is a communication error which usually means there is a connection that has come loose. Removing the top and unpplugging and replugging the connectors in will fix 75% of these codes. If the bottom toe panel is not on it will also give you an F28.
Good luck

Whirlpool Duet washer, during the wash cycle, get H F error code

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error code F/H means no water was detected entering machine or Pressure switch trip not detected. If after 30 seconds the control does not detect water entering machine and then valves will be turned off and the error code will be displayed. It can also happen if the control has turned the water valves on and after 8 minutes the flow meter has detected 10.5 gallons of water passing through it, but has not detected the pressure switch trip, the valves will be turned off and the error code will flash. You’ll need to Press PAUSE/CANCEL twice to clear the display. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks

F21 on Whirlpool front load duet washer

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

In most cases this is simply caused by a clogged drain pump and all that is required is a good cleaning. Read through the instructions provided in the link on how to do this. Make sure the washer is unplugged while servicing any of the internal components.

If the problem persists, you may have a drain pump that is malfunctioning or is damaged. The manufacturer recommends replacing the pump if this is the case.

Let me know if you have any questions. I hope this helps you.
