Be sure thread is in the tension docs properly, a general rule is that the tensions on the threads that go to the needles are set at a higher # 5&4, possibly 6&5 (lt-Rt) then set upper and lower looper thread tensions at 3-2 or looser than needle tensions
Then test sew (serge) you should be able to adjust tensions slightly until you can see straight line on left where needles are and the looper tensions should meet on right
The factory default is the midway point between high & low numbers on each of the tension dials. This is generally the setting for a basic overlock stitch. However, different tension settings is how different stitches are created.

Hi, and welcome to FixYa. Normally, the default top tension setting on most machines is between 4 and 6. Brother manuals usually contain detailed information about tension and how to determine if your tension is set correctly, so check that section of your manual when you have time....if you don't have your manual...
you can find a copy to download for free on Brother's website (I added a link to the web page below). The same web page has other information about your machine that you might find helpful now or in the future. Even if you have the manual, it is worth a visit.

If you and other readers have a minute to rate my answer, it helps me better understand what readers are looking for when they come to the FixYa site for help.
Best of luck, and enjoy your machine. Don't hesitate to comment if the link doesn't' work, or if you have more questions. Cheers!

Your tension should be between 3-5 but all your dials need to be right around the same setting. Try them on 3 then go to 5 see what the difference is and then adjust accordingly.

Okie Dokie..... Here's the way I see it.. The repair center was of little or no help to you . So, I will try to do my best..
First thing you need to do is unthread your machine and set the tension to 4.. Rethread the machine up to just before the needle.
When you get that far, put the presser foot down. If your thread pulls right thru easily, it is not threaded thru the tension wheel right. It your thread is hard to pull thru with the presser foot down, then it is threaded right.
General rule of thumb..
Loops on the bottom-- problem on the top
loops on the top--- problem on the bottom.
Hope this helps..
Mimi
