This means that the switch inside the camera that senses the SD card protection switch is bad or broken. Take the card out of the slot and look inside with a small light and check the side where the corresponding location for the switch is. See if there is a part missing or stuck. In most cases this is something you cannot repair yourself. You have to send the camera in

It sounds like the tiny locking switch on the SD card has accidently been set to "lock". Remove the card from the camera and slide the switch to the opposite position. That should do it.

You need to reset the file-numbering.
Turn mode-dial to Set and turn on the camera. Select Frame No. from the setup menu. Switch Frame No. to Renew. Press OK. Format the card (also from the Setup Menu) After formatting, select Frame No. againg and switch to Cont. File numbers will now start from 100.0001 again

Take a close look at the cards that you've used. Are they all 4GB or higher "SDHC" cards? If so, that's your problem. Your camera was made well before the SDHC format came out. Although the card looks exactly the same as a standard SD card, the format it uses is very different. Unfortunately, there is no way that your camera will work with SDHC format. It can only use standard SD (cards that are 2GB or less). Fortunately, these are very inexpensive these days (check Amazon).
