I've read some scary reports that e31 might mean you are out of luck.
I'd still get onto Bushnell themselves and ask them what it means.
Be sure to ask them for a quote before agreeing to send it away for repairs. Often when there's a hardware issue inside the device, because of stupidly high service fees, you could be better off just purchasing a new one.
This happend to me not long ago and I called Busnell North America and they asked me what type of range finder I had and sent me a new one...NO CHARGE!!
Very nice of them and it was shipped out fairly fast as well. Give it a try...(800) 423-3537
NOTE to view this manual you will need a PDF viewer on your computer if you do not have Adobe, there is a free ware software PDF viewer called Foxit v3 Build 1560 that you can download Here from their site
I have the same problem, and sent my unit to Bushnell for repair. They were unable to repair it, stated "obsolete" and "repair parts unavailable" and sent it back to me.
Would you be interested in selling me your dead unit for parts for a few bucks? Thanks.
