Maybe if you set the print mode to b/w within the printer settings.. It's possible that Lexmark won't let the printer continue without all cartridges working though.

SOURCE: colour printing

Check the following thread, it might apply to your problem. and just as a printer can be fooled to show a low level ink, I guess it can happen the other way around. http://www.fixya.com/problems-solutions/t103191,p342983/Epson-Stylus-Photo-R300-InkJet-Printer.aspx Good luck

SOURCE: Black cartridge not printing

This might sound really silly, but when you removed the protective tape over the cartridge, did it all come off? I had this problem once, and the tape had separated, the coloured part had come off leaving a clear film over the print head. Once I peeled that off, all was well. Hope that helps. Aileen xx

Can i print in black if the colour has run out

You won't be able to print if one of the cartridges is out of ink. The printer will prime every once in a while thus the need for all cartridges to have sufficient ink levels to prevent damaging the printhead.

Pro905 is out of color ink. can i print in black and white text only

The Lexmark Platinum Pro905 needs all four inks to have substantial ink for printing at all times in order to prevent damage to the printhead. This is why a user has to replace empty ink cartridges to continue printing. This includes color cartridges for black only jobs.

I replaced the black ink cartridge yesterday and it seemed to print fine. Today it is not dispensing any ink. (I also just replaced the print head a few weeks ago.)

How can I alter the print settings to get more colour prints ? at the moment I am getting 50 8x6 colour photos from the 100xl cartridges. I have changed screen setting from photo to automatic,is there...

For everyday printing you may find that "Quick Print" or "Draft" mode gives good-enough print quality and greatly reduces your ink consumption. In Windows click the preferences button in any print dialog. On Mac you look in the Print Settings pane of the expanded print dialog. If you don't mind small print, you can also try "n-up" printing that will squeeze two or more pages onto a single sheet of paper.

My Lexmark Pro 905 has stopped printing colour. All cartridges are full.

Does the ink stuck up for a long time. I mean you do not print anything for long period of time? If yes, the ink dries up and try to clean the ink head by using rubbing the ink head cartridge to plain paper with isopropyl alcohol.

If not, the best way if to replace the ink cartridge and it will be fine printing.

My pro905 stopped printing in black although cartridge is showing 50% full. what could be the problem?

Make sure you are using genuine Lexmark cartridges. It could be that your black cartridge needs cleaning. Try to do the Deep Clean Printhead function on the printer. Press Ink Levels -> press More Options -> select Deep Clean Printhead. The printer will then print a clean cartridge nozzles page. If black ink is not printed on the page, you may need to update your printer's firmware. The update corrects print quality issues on your printer. You can easily download and install the update using this link Lexmark Platinum Pro905 Firmware Update. Download and install the Pro905 update. Thanks.

My Lexmark Z600 has stopped using the colour 27 cartridge. On test print it only shows black test lines and on a colour picture it prints black. When printing it shows the colour cartridge as full. I have...

apparently the default printing color has been changed, you have to change it back either from "control panel/ printers /right click on your printer and click properties, and choose color for printing." or you can do it per printing job, when it shows u the printing options, (like number of copies and other (basically same window from the control panel). if you do it from the control panel whatever you choose, that would be the default, otherwise it is per job change and is not permanent.
