1. Go to the "Control Panel" and double click on the "Mouse" item.
2. Go through the tabs in the "Mouse Properties" window & find the tab where you can set up your touchpad. This differs from laptop to another since it is based on the touchpad's drivers.
3. On that tab, check & make sure that your touchpad is enabled. If it is not, then change the setting to enabled.
4. Click "Apply" to apply the changes, then close the "Mouse Properties" window.

If you cannot find a tab to set up your touchpad, then your touchpad drivers might not be installed. In this case, you will need to install them first.

If the above does not work, then chance are that your touchpad's connector (which connects the device to the laptop's motherboard) is either loosely connected or not connected at all. You will need to open your laptop to be able to check & correct this.

Toshiba Laptop left click stopped wokring?

1) Examine your "Function"/"F" keys and look for a touchpad icon. If you find one, hold the "Fn" key and press the touchpad icon button to unlock the touchpad. Move on to Step 2 if your laptop doesn't support this feature.

  • 2) Plug a USB mouse into an open port on your laptop. Click the Windows "Start" button. Click "Control Panel" in Windows XP and double-click "Device Manager." Type "Device" in the search box in Vista and Windows 7 and click "Device Manager" from the results.
  • 3) Click "+" next to "Mice and other pointing devices." Right-click the touchpad and select "Enable." Your touchpad is now unlocked.

I purchased a restart/restore disc for my emachine two weeks ago i recieved it some time last week and come to find out that it dosnt work, i took it to best buy geek squad and the put in a disc of their...

Was the Geek Squad's disc being detected? Or did you just take them your disc to see if they could get a computer to recognize it? If not, then you may just need to change some settings at Boot for your computer to start booting from your restore disc. I've never personally dealt with the Geek Squad, but I would not just take their word for something. I've had several people very unhappy with the outcome of letting them service their computers. I've talked to other people who were very happy with the Geek Squad service. Try taking your disc to a local computer shop and ask them if they can put the disc in their computer to see if it is a functioning Restore Disc. MADHATTER COMPUTERS

Bring it to best buy's Geek Squad. Or if you do not want to spend more money, bring it back to the store where you brought it.

Gateway PC screen blank, geek squad diagnosis motherboard issue

You could replace the motor board for less than $100 but I think the geek squad says the motor board is bad on every computer that doesn't start right up for them so I would have someone else look at it first. Or just get a new computer at walmart for like $300

    GEEK SQUAD

I agree. Never ever ever ever ever take your computer to Geek Squad. I don't know how many times I have to go to people's homes and correct something GS did or they tell me they reformatted their drive, losing all their data without telling them first, for something so simple that could have been fixed inside of 15 minutes. And they charge way above industry standard and most of their techs have had no formal training.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as FixYa. Thank you.

    Compaq Laptop Overheating

sounds like you need another motherboard or prepare to get out the solder iron and correct yourself.

geek squad will not solder back on connectors, what you should do is take it to the local pc repair place and they might solder it back on. call around and ask if they can solder a component back on, it might take a couple calls to find one that will.
