If I ghost another drive to this one(250g) from a raid drive it will not boot in std ide slot. if I ghost it from an ide to raid slot it still won't boot in ide slot. If I ghost from primary ide to secondary ide it will not boot in ide It will boot perfectly in a raid slot what gives.
SOURCE: how to format IDE hard drive?
This drive is an IDE drive. The jumpers can be set on it to make it a slave.
Once set as a slave, you can identify the drive letter given to this drive and format it either at a command prompt: C:> format [drive:] /s (to make it bootable) or no /s to just format it.- OR within Windows: right click on the drive letter and select format.

i think you must place a jumper on the back side of the hdd.
If there isn't any jumper, it is a "slave".
When you place a jumper on the correct spot, the hard drive will become the master hdd. The position of the jumper can be found on the hdd itself.
Search for "master" and put the jumper there

try replacing all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions + IDE,SATA and the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive
have secure connections and are not faulty or just replace them they are probably old and faulty ?
