If you have furnce manual check how wires from thermostat to controller are suppose to be wired. Then verify they are correct location red to red white to white etc.
i have run into problems after changing thermostat becuase we assume installer placed wires in correct locations at controller. (My son installing smart thermostat showed me a blue wire on his controller when there was no blue wire called out, the installer ran out of wire and after much searching we found the splice). So start over and verify correct colors are in use, or tag the color if in wrong spot. Draw a diagram of controller to help you wire thermostat.

Need more info. Are you saying that when tstat calls for heat then it short cycles. But if you turn it off then back on it runs ok?

SOURCE: Furnace doesn't reach desired temperature

One of two things you can try. Do you own a volt ohm meter? Anytime your unit cycles short like it is doing the control circuit which on this one is 24 volts that engages relays and controls the gas valve to open and close. I am thinking the heat exchanger is getting so hot it is tripping the upper limit which for the most part is around 180 degrees. So next time it turns off take your ohm meter and with the power to the whole unit off. Either turn the breaker off or there is a light switch that is real close to unit turn it off. Undo the two wires to the gas valve and ohm them out. You should have continuity if you get nothing check each limit switch should have a couple. Undo wires to them and check. If you find one that is open more then likely the upper one. They are a safety device that keeps the unit from getting too hot.

There might be another option increase the speed of your fan motor to get the heat out of furnace quicker. Look at the circuit board notice the fan wiring going to it. The Red wire from fan is low speed look to see if it is on HEAT on the board. You should have 4 speeds to pick from you could take the black off of COOL and swap wires and test the unit by doing that. I'm going to put a solution on this so I can come back to it quicker. Even though we a just testing it for now. ken

Hi,
I am assuming here that you are working with a York furnace...

They are a royal pain in the rear with that polarity business!!!

To check the polarity you will need an electric meter and then pull apart the box where the electric enters the furnace...
The WHITE wire should be the neutral or have no power when grounded...
The Black wire should be the hot wire and have power when grounded...

Also the ground wire must have a very good connection to the ground wire that goes outside the house into the ground rod...

I have had an instance when I had to drive a totally separate ground rod and ground the furnace directly to it as the power co. ground interfered with the house ground...of course they will never admit to such a thing...

Anyway... this checking and possible grounding should get you working again...

What ya got is a limit popped outthemobilian_1389.jpgLook for more than one of these puppy's in the circuit.

About the twinning and the reversed polarity if this was a new install with trouble yeah that might be it but this one was working and has recently took a dump correct? Look for reasons why a limit would pop out like blocked vents dirty filters and rusty burners. Reset that puppy and correct those things that are causing the air restriction .

What could cause carrier fault code 42 besides bad inducer

Could be several causes.
1. Blockage on piping
2. Water in inducer housing slowing down inducer impeller
3. Condensate trap for furnace clogged up.
4. Inducer motor going bad.
5. Leak in vacuum hoses or not connected.

TRI-COLOR (DSI LED) DIAGNOSTIC TABLE
No. of Red BLINKS

Verify the gas valve is operating and shutting down properly. Flame in burner assemble should extinguish promptly at the end of the cycle. Check orifices and gas pressure.

2 BLINKS Pressure switch stuck closed/ inducer error
Pressure switch stuck closed. Check switch function, verify inducer is turning off.

3 BLINKS 1st-stage pressure switch stuck open/inducer error
Check pressure switch function and tubing. Verify inducer is turning on the pulling sufficient vacuum to engage switch.

4 BLINKS Open limit switch Verify continuity through rollout switch circuit.

7 BLINKS External lockout (retries exceeded) Failure to sense flame is often caused by carbon deposits on the
flame sensor, a disconnected or shorted flame sensor lead or a
poorly grounded furnace. Carbon deposits can be cleaned with

High limit switch open on armstrong furnace

If you know where the high limit switch is you can always cut the two wires and wire them together causing the limit to close. But what you have to watch out for is why the high limit is not closing. That means in your return air either you have a dirty return air duct, dirty filter, or you don't have all your registors open to allow the heat to escape the heat exchanger. Just watch over riding the system. The high limit switch should either be on or behind the blower, in the middle of the system right under the heat exchanger. any other questions about hvac just ask.
