I have a 1999 ProScan PS56700 56" rear projection TV that was working perfectly up until this morning. I last turned it off yesterday under normal conditions and today it would not power up. I have the back panel and casing of the TV off and have checked the fuse. The fuse is intact. When I unplug the set for several minutes and then plug it back in and push the power button on the front of the TV, I can hear a high pitched ringing in the TV as if is receiving power, but the front power on indicator light does not shine and there is no light being emmitted from any of the three light sources. The ringing will cease when I unplug the TV. There is a discoloration (rusty burnt appearance) on the Main Chassis Board in the grid intersect area of PP6 as defined by the electrical schematic. The exact location is looking at the board from the back of the TV is to the right of JW12100, to the bottom of CR13401, to the left of PB14120 and the to top of JW12164. It definitely appears like something was there and is now gone/burnt up. However, there is a rusty appearance to the area which leads me to believe that that area had the issue a few years back. Any thoughts on how to fix?

Toshiba model 57H93 worked perfectly last night. Turned off and went to bed. Turned on this morning, and nothing, it won't turn on. Checked all cords and cables, pushed reset button, and still won't turn on. What could cause this to happen?
For a 10 years old TV, it might not be worth fixing it. Save your money to get a new one once this one gives up.
I would keep it running using with the back cover off using that fan to keep it cool.
Hope this helps.
Proscans are manufactured in conjunction with RCA what is the chassis number of your set? I can help you out if you can provide the chassis number. Should be located on the back cover of your set.
Your problem is most likely in the main power supply or possibly in the sweep power supply. Without the know how and a service manual, you could turn a minor problem into a mojor headach.. LOL Play it safe and invest in a pro to assist you in this repair, as there are no user replaceable parts inside this TV set. Good Luck
