No its not your windows system, try to check again your wireless router if the software firmware are installed properly in your PC. Also to configure it and connect your internet provider to the Router, which is automatically create its own Protocol Address or Obtain Address, even on Wireless connection. This is basic on Wireless Router to connect on the internet. Good luck!

I just got your messages, looking at the details of your laptop it has a build in wireless so as you have noticed since its working now, you won't need to purchase a adapter for the laptop since it already has one build in.

Try resetting your IP address:
The laptop may be trying to use the IP address from the old router.

1) Click Start (assuming Windows 2000, XP, or Vista)
2) Click Run
3) Type in CMD
This will take you to a black command box
4) Type in: ipconfig/release
The chart should show your IP address as 0.0.0.0
Once this has happened, proceed to step 5
5) Type in: ipconfig/renew
You should now see a new IP address listed.

Also note that you need to set up your network key (assuming that you are using one) on both the router and laptop.
Make sure that your router is set up to perform as DHCP server.
