I suspect that the microprocessor detected an overheat fault and is keeping it in E8 mode to prevent fire. The code needs to be cleared somehow. If it has some buttons on the front then try holding one whilst plugging it in. This may reset it. The reset will be something along those lines. Don't open it because if you can't fix it that way you need to take it back to the shop.

This is what I end up doing to fix mine. I take a cheap tooth brush with bristles all in a straight line. Not a fancy one with circles or designs in the middle. I than press that on the vent holes right under the Dyson wording and above the temp display. You can't miss them lol. Any way press the tooth brush into these holes and clear of dust. Do this all around the unit. Than I use compressed air to blow through the vents to clear or even deeper junk. After this is all completed it seems to work for some time before the error starts showing again. Which seems to go with the other comment the unit is not hearing to prevent a fire from a safety feature.
If it comes up an ok there way I have cleared it is wait til the error shows than unplug it and plug back in and power it on again. Do this a few times and you it will work. Just takes patience also you will notice when the error will not display there will be a different sound and the fan will work pretty quick. I also tend to keep the fan speed speed around 4 when restarting don't know if this helps or not.
